Oakland, Tri-State sweep twinbills

— HYNDMAN, Pa. — The Oakland Oaks scored six runs in the first inning of the opener and had a 5-0 lead after the second inning of the nightcap to take both games of a Pen-Mar-WV League doubleheader against the Potomac Pirates on Saturday.

Mo Adams drove in three runs with a double and two singles to lead the Oaks to a 14-1 victory in the first game and had two singles as Oakland finished the afternoon with a 7-3 win.

The 6-0 lead from the first inning of the day turned into a 12-1 lead after another six-spot in the top of the third. Oakland (10-4) finished its scoring with a pair of runs in the fourth.

Scott Cooper, who also had a double, struck out seven in a complete game four-hitter.

Micah Stair had a double and a single for the Pirates.

Oakland took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of the trailer and padded it to 5-0 in the second.

Blayne McGuirk had a double and two singles and Cooper and Adams two singles for the Oaks.

Cody Humberson and Corey Helbig combined to scatter five singles with Humberson working the first six innings for the win.

Today at 1 p.m., the Oaks host the Cumberland Orioles while the Pirates (4-10) play the Tri-State Titans at the Hot Stove Complex.

PETERSBURG, W.Va. — Chris Stein had 17 combined strikeouts after pitching two complete games to keep the Tri-State Titans undefeated with a sweep of a doubleheader against the Potomac Valley Sons of Thunder.

Stein fanned nine in a three-hit shutout in the first game, and had eight more strikeouts in the second game for the Titans (12-0).

In the first gaame, Cody Ellsworth led Tri-State at the plate with a double and a single. Jared Lapp and Patt Sapp had two singles.

Matt Taylor doubled and singled and Randall Ours doubled for the Sons of Thunder (0-16).

Kyle Knisely had two of the Titans’ six hits in the second game, slapping out two singles and driving in a run.

Jamison Jones led Potomac Valley with a triple and a single, and Corbin White had an RBI single.

Tri-State plays the Potomac Pirates today at the Hot Stove Complex at 1 p.m.. Potomac Valley is off until hosting the Pirates on Saturday.
