CUMBERLAND — Sophomore Michala Garrison had eight strikeouts and allowed only two hits while shutting out Frankfort 2-0 Friday afternoon as Fort Hill opened the season with a win.
Pitching and defense dominated each team over the first five innings before the Sentinels cracked their way onto the scoreboard with a run in the fifth. Shania James started the inning with a single and moved up to second on a sacrifice bunt by Sierra Minnick and later scored on an infield single by Taylor Hoppert.
Fort Hill tacked on its second run in the bottom of the sixth when Morgan Cranford singled and scored on a triple by Emma Bauer.
Garrison retired the Falcons in order in the seventh to preserve the win.
Alex Northcraft had eight strikeouts in the loss.
Fort Hill (1-0) plays a doubleheader with at Hedgesville beginning at noon. Frankfort hosts a noon doubleheader with Bishop Walsh today.
Hope for Hyndman 7
CRESAPTOWN — Ashleigh Eisentrout and Tori Bohrer homered and Chantelle Collette had three hits to lead Allegany to a season-opening win over Hope for Hyndman.
The Campers wasted no time in taking control, scoring seven times in the first inning. Bohrer slammed a three-run homer and Kyleigh Sellers had a two-run double in the big inning.
Eisentrout’s homer was a two-run shot in the fourth which extended Allegany’s lead to 10-4.
The teams combined for 22 runs and 23 hits.
Bohrer finished with a homer, single and four RBIs, Collette had three singles and an RBI, Courtney Landis two doubles and two RBIs, and Tallia Logsdon two singles for the Campers.
Katie Cosgrove hit a double and two singles, Carly Willison belted a three-run homer and Mazi Diehl had two singles for the Hornets.
Allegany plays at Fort Hill on Monday.
