HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. — Sierra Minnick and Michala Garrison teamed for a four-hit shutout and Garrison hit a home run as Fort Hill beat Hedgesville, 3-0, to earn a split of their high school softball doubleheader on Saturday.
Minnick got the win, allowing only two hits and walking three in five innings. Garrison earned a save, allowing two hits, walking one and striking out two in the last two innings.
Garrison’s homer was a solo shot in the second inning. She finished with a homer and double and Emma Bauer had an RBI single.
Hedgesville won the opener 5-3. Garrison belted two doubles, Shania James had two singles and Alexis Kimmell and Morgan Cranford doubled for Fort Hill, which outhit Hedgesville 9-7.
Cranford doubled and scored on a double by Garrison in the fourth inning and Sarah Lowery and Cheyenne Rice singled and scored on a double by Kimmell in the seventh for the Fort Hill runs.
Courtney Layhew doubled and Madalyn Laughlin singled twice for the Eagles (3-2). Allison Sween got the win, scattering nine hits, striking out four and walking none.
Fort Hill (2-1) will host Allegany on Monday.
ROMNEY, W.Va. — Northern scored five times in the top of the eighth inning to beat Hampshire.
Morgan Marple tripled in the eighth as the Huskies pulled away quickly. Marple also doubled, while Lexi Nicklin’s two-out bunt for a single started Northern’s rally in the eighth.
Erica Umbel got the win with seven strikeouts, and also had a pair of singles.
The Huskies led 3-0 before Hampshire scored three times in the bottom of the sixth.
Northern will play at Frankfort on Monday.
ROMNEY, W.Va. — Brianna Glass did enough to keep Hampshire off balanced and the Southern offense provided her plenty of support as the Rams opened the season with a 13-6 win over the Trojans.
Michaela Bosley supplied Southern with its biggest hit of the afternoon, a triple in the fourth inning.
Elizabeth Hose and Cierra Funke hit doubles for the Trojans, with Hose driving in a run.
Southern plays Wednesday at Frankfort and Hampshire plays Tuesday at home against Petersburg.

PETERSBURG, W.Va. — Marley Thompson had three hits and an RBI to help Petersburg to a 5-2 win over Berkeley Springs in the second game of a doubleheader.
Thompson had three singles and Kaitlyn Keplinger doubled, singled and drove in two runs.
Cheyenne Earle had a two-run single for the Vikes.
Makeena Harrington doubled for Berkeley Springs.
Berkeley Springs won the first tgame 5-3.
Skylar Korschinsky and Allura Rohm had two singles and an RBI and Ashley Campbell had a double and two RBIs for the Indians.
Campbell had eight strikeouts as the winning pitcher.
Petersburg (1-1) will host Elkins on Monday.
