Homecoming festivities continue at Bishop Walsh

Spartans play Alco first in soccer, then Frederick Christian in football

CUMBERLAND — A busy Homecoming weekend at Bishop Walsh School winds to a close today when the Spartans boys soccer team plays host to top-ranked Allegany in the morning, and the BW football team hosts Frederick County Christian in the afternoon.

The Bishop Walsh soccer team (11-4 overall, 2-1 City League) is coming off a thrilling 4-3 win over Fort Hill on Wednesday, and will take on the top-ranked and undefeated Campers (9-0, 2-0) with a share of the City title on the line. The junior varsity match begins at 10 a.m. and the varsity match at 11:30 a.m.

Then at 2 p.m., the BW football team (5-1) will host the Eagles (0-5) as the Spartans look to bounce back from their only loss of the season thus far. The Spartans lost to St. Mary’s Ryken last Friday, 42-0, and were plagued by turnovers through the entire game, as Billy Conroy led them in rushing with 87 yards on 12 carries.

The Frederick County Christian Eagles are a varsity football team that accepts home school, private school and some public school players. A member of the MACC, the Eagles were the 2010 Gold Bowl Champs and in 2011 made it to the championship game.

This season the Eagles have lost to Maryland School for the Deaf, Central Virginia Home School, Friends, Fairfax Home School and Maryland Christian, being outscored 144-13.
