MR, Frankfort sweep

FROSTBURG — Sarah Robinson had a match-high 16 service points, four aces and five kills as Mountain Ridge swept Salisbury 3-0 by scores of 25-7, 25-11 and 25-4.

Allie Hawkins added 11 service points with four aces, 23 assists and four kills, and Shae Winner added nine points, 12 kills and an ace for the Miners (9-3), who play again Tuesday, at home, against Northern.

The Mountain Ridge jayvees also won, 25-15, 25-17. Rachael Grabenstein and Marlee Shumake led the way with seven service points. The jayvees play in the Fort Hill Invitational Saturday at 9 a.m.

Frankfort 3, Allegany 0

CUMBERLAND  — Frankfort topped Allegany 25-18 in the first game and continued to pull away from the Campers in the final two during a clean sweep Monday in a volleyball match at Allegany.

After winning by seven points in the opener, the Falcons won the next game 25-16 and finished with a 25-13 victory in the final game.

Stephanie Cornachia led the Falcons with 10 kills, eight points, five aces and three blocks. Alexis Rice had 26 assists and Mikayla Miller had 13 kills and five points. Brittany Porter added 11 points.

Anya Murray paced the Campers with 30 hits, 16 assists and eight digs. Alexis Robinette added 10 hits and four kills.

Frankfort also swept the junior varsity game, 25-7 and 25-16. Maddie Pfaff had 15 points and six aces and Jessie Dayton had 16 points and three aces.

Frankfort visits Fort Hill on Thursday, while Allegany and the Sentinels play at Fort Hill tonight.

  • Carr has 10 RBIs as Northern splits pair

    HANCOCK — Brooks Carr hit two home runs and drove in 10 runs on the day as Northern split a pair of games at the Hancock Easter Classic, beating Broadfording Academy 26-1 before losing to St. James 10-6. Against Broadfording, Carr hit a three-run homer in a 10run first inning, and also had a two-run double, an RBI single and a sacrifice fly to finish with seven RBIs. He also teamed with Brett Oates on a four-inning no-hitter. Carr struck out seven over the first three innings and Oates fanned two in the fourth.

    OAKLAND — Mountain Ridge hit three home runs on the day and used a five-run second to pull away from Southern, 9-2, in an Appalachian Mountain Athletic Conference action Saturday morning at Southern to extend its winning streak to 58 games.
