Sentinels, Miners win 3-0

— CUMBERLAND — Fort Hill jumped out to a 1-0 lead with an easy win in the first game, but had to rally to win the final two games to sweep Brunswick in the Maryland 1A West Quarterfinals Monday night.

The second-seeded Sentinels won the opening game 25-13, but needed to fight back to win the second 25-22 and rallied for a 25-21 win that ended Brunswick’s season.

Fort Hill got a team-high 22 assists from Haley Wolfe, who also had eight points and four kills. Sierra Minnick provided the Sentinels with 18 digs and Ra’Shanna Middleton added 12 points, four kills and three aces. Troie York put together 11 points, seven kills and two aces, Erin Amoruso had 11 digs and four kills and Sarah Lowery had seven kills.

The Sentinels (12-3) are at home when they host the third-seeded Mountain Ridge on Wednesday, 6 p.m., in the 1A West Region semifinals.

FROSTBURG  — Allie Hawkins posted a double-double with 20 assists and 10 digs to send Mountain Ridge to a sweep of Manchester Valley and to advance the Miners into the Maryland 1A West Region semifinals against Fort Hill.

The 12-3 Miners, seeded third, will square off against the second-seeded Sentinels in the semifinals on Wednesday in Cumberland for a shot at the region championship game. Smithsburg and Boonsboro are the other semifinal and is also scheduled for Wednesday.

Sarah Raines scored a team-high 13 points for the Miners, also adding four kills and three aces. Shae Winner contributed 10 digs, nine kills and eight points, with Tommelyn Raines collecting eight kills and four blocks.
