DOVER, Del. — Frostburg State scored five fourth-quarter goals, with sophomore Nick Stailey getting three of them, to soar past Wesley, 11-6, in a Capital Athletic Conference men’s lacrosse match Saturday afternoon.
The Bobcats (10-3, 3-2) led 6-5 before outscoring the Wolverines (5-5, 0-4) 5-1 in the decisive final quarter.
Tate Rolland opened the fourth with an unassisted goal at 14:11. Stailey scored a man-up goal with 7:46 to play and an even-strength goal at 3:55. Devin Colegrove found the net with 2:36 showing and Stailey capped the day’s scoring at 1:48.
Stailey finished with three goals on four shots. Chris Rios added two goals and two assists while Greg Bourne scored twice and scooped up two ground balls. Rolland grabbed a game-high seven ground balls and Zach Burkhardt caused three turnovers. Billy Lark went 14-for-21 in face-offs and goalie Tyler Haines had eight saves in the win.
FSU led in shots, 48-40, and in ground balls, 49-27.
The Bobcats host Southern Virginia in a non-conference match on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Salisbury 16, Frostburg State 6
SALISBURY — Freshman Megan Hart scored three goals and added an assist but the Frostburg State women’s lacrosse team was overpowered by No. 1 ranked Salisbury, 16-6, in Capital Athletic Conference action on Saturday.
The undefeated Sea Gulls (12-0, 4-0) led 10-0 at halftime and outshot Frostburg (2-10, 0-4) 24-6 in the first half.
Bethany Baer led the way for the Sea Gulls with four goals and two assists. Shelby Nemecek also had four goals.
Frostburg State scored four straight goals to open the second half, with three coming from Hart. Malory Brunett scored two goals and Marissa Howk had the other for the Bobcats, who will host York in a conference match on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
