Northern nips Bishop Walsh

Beal scores only goal of Huskies 1-0 win over Spartans

CUMBERLAND — Jeff Beal broke the silence by scoring with six minutes left in the second half to lift Northern to a 1-0 upset of No. 5 Bishop Walsh Monday in AMAC action at Brother Stephen F. Paul Spartan Stadium.

Beal was assisted by Corey Durst on his lone goal, with the defenses controlling the rest of the night.

The Huskies found a way to get off 16 shots, and held the Spartans to 10. Alex Durst made nine saves in Northern’s third shutout of the season, and Austin Crotts had 10 saves in Bishop Walsh's goal.

Northern built a 4-1 edge in corner kicks.

The Huskies won the jayvee game, 4-2.

Northern (4-1-1, 3-0-1 AMAC) will play back-to-back games against No. 2 Allegany — in Cumberland on Thursday and Accident on Saturday. Bishop Walsh (8-5, 2-4) plays Keyser on Thursday.

ROMNEY, W.Va. — Six different players scored for Jefferson during the Cougars 6-0 win over Hampshire Monday evening in West Virginia Class AAA action.

Nick Graef, Jack Barrat and Miles Dixon-Gross scored in the first half. Graef and Barrat were unassisted on their, while Tyler Steffey assisted Dixon-Gross.

Noah Sharp was assisted by Bryan Orcutt to start the second half before Brett Stuart and Ian Forrest added unassisted goals.

Hampshire’s Isaak Lambert had 20 saves, and Robert Judy had one after all goals were scored. Jefferson’s Daniel Hussion had three saves.

Hampshire (5-8) will travel to play Hedgesville at 11 a.m on Saturday.
