Georges Creek sets JCP soccer sign-ups

LONACONING — Georges Creek JCP soccer will hold sign-ups at Westmar Middle School Wednesday, May 8 and Wednesday, May 15, 6 to 7 p.m., and Saturday, May 18, 10:30 a.m. to noon.

The varsity division consists of boys and girls ages 11-14 as of Sept. 1 of the year in grades 6-8. The JV division consists of boys and girls ages 8-10 as of Sept. 1 of the year in grades 3-5. The B division consists of players ages 5-7 as of Sept. 1 of the year in grades K-2. All children entering kindergarten are eligible to play. New players must bring a copy of their birth certificate to registration.

Colts registration Sunday afternoon

SHORT GAP, W.Va. — The Frankfort Colts football sign-ups will be held Sunday, May 5, 2 to 4 p.m., at the Fort Ashby Community Center. For information, contact Bobby Shanholtz at 301-268-1398.

 

FSU’s Politz CAC Pitcher of the Week

YORK, Pa. — Frostburg State University senior Doug Politz has been named the Capital Athletic Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week it was announced on Monday.

Politz earned the weekly honor after throwing the first five innings of a shutout victory over Penn State Altoona in the second game of a doubleheader on Senior Day.

Politz allowed two singles and without a walk while striking out eight, raising his career total to 131 which ranks ninth on FSU’s career leaders list.

Politz is 4-3 overall with a team-best 51 strikeouts in 52.1 innings.

FSU hosts Mt. Aloysius in a doubleheader today beginning at 2 p.m.

 

Bobcats’ Cronauer CAC’s top field athlete

YORK, Pa. — Frostburg State track & field freshman Michael Cronauer has been named the Capital Athletic Conference Men’s Field Athlete of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday morning.

Cronauer finished third in the high jump with an ECAC-qualifying effort of 1.95 meters at the Paul Kaiser Classic at Shippensburg University last Saturday.

Cronauer’s height at Shippensburg is the second highest jump in the league this year as FSU heads into the CAC Championships this weekend at Salisbury.

 

Post 13 baseball tryouts Sunday

CUMBERLAND  — American Legion Post 13 baseball tryouts will be held Sunday, 2 p.m., at Legion Field. The tryouts are for any player, ages 14-19, living in the Allegany, Bishop Walsh and Fort Hill school districts.
