Hyndman tops Glendale

FLINTON, Pa. — M.J. Messenger hit a two-run single and Micah Stair pitched a complete game to lead Hope for Hyndman Charter School to a 2-1 victory over Glendale in high school baseball Thursday at Glendale.

Brad Torbet and Jack Leydig had singles and scored Hope for Hyndman’s runs in the first inning, knocked in by Messenger. Daniel Wisnewski doubled for the Hornets.

Stair didn’t buckle after giving up a run in the first, giving up just two more hits the rest of the way and striking out three for the game.

Hope for Hyndman (11-8) will play today, 4:30 p.m., at Windber.

Shalom 5, Calvary 3

HAGERSTOWN — Adam Crilley homered and winning pitcher Matt Wenger went 3 for 3 with a pair of RBIs to lead Shalom past Calvary Christian in the semifinals of the Mason-Dixon Christian Conerence Tournament.

Calvary pitchers Justin Swogger, who started and worked three innings, and reliever Gavin Hart combined for nine strikeouts and six walks.

The Eagles were led at the plate by Zach Nelson with two singles, a run scored and an RBI. Swogger had a double and single, scored a run and knocked in another.

Calvary (10-4) will take on Broadfording in the consolation round Monday at Grace Academy.

Shade 14, Salisbury 2

SALISBURY, Pa. — Winning pitcher Nash Walker and Wade Walker had three singles each and  Ryan Fyock had two doubles to lead Shade past Salisbury.

Nash Walker went all five innings for the win, giving up just four hits and striking out 10.

Roberto Pattison had a pair of singles for Salisbury.

Salisbury finishes the season at 6-16.

  • Carr has 10 RBIs as Northern splits pair

    HANCOCK — Brooks Carr hit two home runs and drove in 10 runs on the day as Northern split a pair of games at the Hancock Easter Classic, beating Broadfording Academy 26-1 before losing to St. James 10-6. Against Broadfording, Carr hit a three-run homer in a 10run first inning, and also had a two-run double, an RBI single and a sacrifice fly to finish with seven RBIs. He also teamed with Brett Oates on a four-inning no-hitter. Carr struck out seven over the first three innings and Oates fanned two in the fourth.
