Post 13 baseball signups today

CUMBERLAND — The Fort Cumberland Post 13 American Legion baseball team will hold signups today, for both junior and senior teams, at 8 a.m. at Legion Field.

If unable to attend but interested, call senior team manager Mike Hutchinson at 301-697-5243 or junior team manager Brian Kesner at 301-876-3763.


CAYFL Patriots sign-ups tonight

CUMBERLAND — The Hartley’s Pizza/Personal Best Patriots of the Cumberland Area Youth Football League will hold sign-ups tonight beginning at 6 p.m. in front of Greenway Avenue Stadium.

Players living in the Washington Middle School area between the ages of 10 and 14 are eligible.

All first-time players must present a copy of their birth certificiate. A registration fee will be required.

Calvary holds off Heritage, 3-2

HAGERSTOWN, Pa. — Peyton Emerick scored both goals in the first half and Calvary built a 3-0 lead before keeping Heritage at bay in heavy rain during a 3-2 Mason-Dixon Christian Conference win.

Emerick scored with six minutes remaining in the first half on an unresisted goal and then got her second three minutes later off an assist from Chesni Ultis. Mikala Arbogast scored two minutes into the second half to make it 3-0.

Heritage notched its first goal two minutes later when Hayley Hemphill scored and were able to draw within one on Amy Gaylor’s goal with two minutes left.

Calvary (4-4-1, 3-3-1 MDCC) plays today at Cumberland Valley.


Dapper Dan board meeting Tuesday

CUMBERLAND — The Dapper Dan Club will hold an executive board meeting on Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. at The Goodfellowship Club.  The upcoming baseball season and steak feed will be discussed.  Steak feed tickets will be distributed to Executive Board members at this time.


Sr. Phyllis Field to be dedicated Monday

CUMBERLAND — Bishop Walsh School will dedicate its new softball field Monday at 2 p.m. Sister Phyllis McNally Field hosts games for high school and middle school softball at Bishop Walsh.

The entire student body will be in attendance at the dedication. The Bishop Walsh marching band will play the Notre Dame fight song and senior Hannah Squires will sing the national anthem. A color guard will present the flags and students from the Career Center will participate.

Sister Phyllis will throw out the first pitch to catcher Tony Russell. The Bishop Walsh Athletic Association will serve hot dogs following the dedication ceremony. Bishop Walsh hosts Turkeyfoot at 4:30 p.m. Monday.

The public is invited to attend.


16th Katie DeRosa track meet May 12

FROSTBURG — The 16th  Katie DeRosa Memorial Track and Field Meet for students in grades 5-8 will be held at Mountain Ridge High School Stadium on Monday, May 12, beginning at 5:45 p.m.

Registration forms have been sent to physical education teachers, and all registration forms need to be submitted to physical education teachers by Thursday, May 1.
