SALUDA, Va. — Tyler Lawrence struck out eight in a shutout performance on the mound to lead Garrett to a 1-0 victory in the first outing, but Rappahannock turned the tables on the Lakers in the second game by getting a 3-0 shutout if its own in a split of a doubleheader played Friday afternoon.
The Lakers scored in the top of the sixth inning when Luis Rios singled, stole second and scored on a double by Corey Helbig to take the first game 1-0.
Lawrence allowed five hits and retired nine of the last 10 batters he faced.
Rappahannock did all of its damage during the fifth inning of the second game. Tony Sandifer, who struck out seven in a three-hit shutout, had a run-scoring single as part of the fifth. Mike Owens added two singles.
Garrett got a double from Michael Drake.
The Lakers (3-6) begin play at Myrtle Beach, S.C., today at 6 p.m. when they face Monroe (N.Y.).

KEYSER, W.Va. — Tanner Everton threw a complete game, striking out eight for Potomac State in a 5-2 win over Mercyhurst, before falling 9-4 in the second game of a doubleheader at Potomac State Friday afternoon.
Everton allowed just two runs on six hits over seven innings. Tre Kerns and Ron Musto each drove in two for the Catamounts.
Angel Martinez drove in both runs for Mercyhurst in game one and drove in two in their game two win.
Dustin Godden pitched the last two innings and got the win.
The Catamounts jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two, but squandered it with the help of 12 errors.
Kerns and Tre Porter each hit triples in the loss.
Potomac State (7-8) will host another doubleheader with Mercyhurst today at noon.
