MOOREFIELD, W.Va. — Lance Taylor and Mike Pultz hit back-to-back solo home runs, and Tyler Smith drove in the go-ahead runs in the sixth inning as Moorefield cracked the regular season open with an 8-5 win over Martinsburg Wednesday at home.
The Bulldogs had just scored five times in the third inning, though only four of them were earned, when Taylor hit a solo home run and Pultz followed with one of his own as the Yellow Jackets sliced the lead to 5-4.
Moorefield scored four more runs in the sixth inning, getting a two-run single from Smith to take a 6-5 lead before adding two more runs.
Adam Snyder went 3-for-4 with two runs batted in and tossed the final two innings to collect the win.
Snyder combined with six other pitchers to allow two hits and one earned run.
The Yellow Jackets play Friday against East Rockingham at the Ram Hardball Classic in Strasburg, Va.
