Shaffer flies Falcons past Tigers, 78-45

Frankfort outscores Union 24-11 in 2nd quarter to pull away

SHORT GAP, W.Va. — Senior guard Alex Brelsford, making his first start of the season, knocked down a two-pointer and a three-pointer in the first quarter to get Frankfort rolling as the Falcons would take it from there to defeat Union on Senior Night, 78-45, Thursday at Frankfort.

Gage Shaffer and Colten Dorsey led Frankfort with 15 points apiece, while Chase Detrick hit for 13, Thane Cutter 11 and Brelsford finishing with seven. The Falcons hit six three-point goals, with Detrick hitting three of them.

Union was led by Jacob Nelson with 11 points and Nathan Evans with eight.

Frankfort took a 20-16 lead at the end of the first quarter, expanded it to 44-27 at the half, then entered the fourth quarter with a 63-38 lead.

“Thane and Colten both had solid games for us,” said Frankfort coach Scott Slider, “and Alex got us off to a good start. Our seniors had a good night tonight and that’s what you like to see.”

Frankfort (8-13) will host Fort Hill Wednesday in a tripleheader beginning at 4:15 p.m. Union (13-7) will host Pendleton County Friday, Feb. 22

Frankfort won the junior varsity game, 58-43. Jack Doepker scored 13 for the Falcons and Caleb Tallman scored 13 for Union.

Union 83, Turkeyfoot 75

CONFLUENCE, Pa. — Nathan Evans scored a career-high 25 points and collected nine rebounds as Union came back from an early double-figure deficit to defeat Turkeyfoot Monday night.

Travis Murphy hit for 24 points for the Tigers, while Tyler Seabolt also had a career high of 15 points, with Jacob Nelson scoring 10. Murphy had six assists and nine steals, while Seabolt had five rebounds.

Turkeyfoot jumped to an 11-point lead in the first quarter before the Tigers cut it to 21-16. Then, in the second quarter, Union picked up the defensive pressure to take a 42-37 lead at the half in a physical contest that remained close in the second half.

The Tigers hit just 12 of 26 free throws, but hit 54 percent from the field.
