5-2 Bobcats undefeated so far during their Florida trip

CLERMONT, Fla. — Frostburg State posted two more wins on Wednesday night during its spring break trip, defeating Carroll (Wisc.) 8-4 and capping the evening with a 4-3 victory over McDaniel.

The two victories push the Bobcats to 4-0 in Florida and 5-2 overall.

Sophomores Renay Aubel and Allison Williams each drove in three runs in the two contests. Aubel finished 2 for 2 with two RBI and two runs in the win over Carroll, while Williams went 1 for 3 with a two-run double late against McDaniel.

Sophomore pitcher Nicole Bradford earned the win against Carroll, tossing 4 2/3 innings with two strikeouts, while allowing three earned runs. Freshman Hannah Tavik earned her fourth win of the season after throwing all 7 innings with five strikeouts against McDaniel.

Leading 3-2 heading into the bottom of the fourth against Carroll, Aubel doubled home senior Caitlin Lovend and junior Bailey Ellsworth and later scored on an error as FSU took a 6-2 advantage.

Carroll plated two runs in the top of the fifth to narrow the score to two runs, but Tavik and junior Maddie White both scored on an error in the bottom of the sixth to seal the 8-4 win.

Against McDaniel, Frostburg struck first with two runs in the top of the third inning. Aubel scored freshman Taylor Blevins with a sacrifice fly and Tavik tripled home Lovend for a 2-0 lead.

Following a solo run from McDaniel in the bottom of the third, both squads scored twice in the sixth. Williams doubled home sophomore Lauren Capece and freshman Emily Zengel for a 4-1 lead. The Green Terror narrowed the deficit to 4-3 when Olivia Kipe doubled home two runs.

In the seventh, neither team scored but McDaniel threatened in the bottom of the inning with a leadoff double. However, Tavik recorded three straight outs after allowing the double to earn the win.

FSU played Fontbonne Thursday afternoon and North Central later in the evening to wrap up its spring break trip.
