BW seeking girls soccer coach

CUMBERLAND — Bishop Walsh School is seeking a head coach for high school girls soccer. Interested persons should send their resumes to athletic director Jim Zamagias at jzamagias@bishopwalsh.org.

Industrial softball league meeting

CUMBERLAND — The Cumberland Industrial Softball League will hold an informational meeting Sunday, 5 p.m., at the Constitution Park Activities Building (across from the pool).

Anyone looking for info on the league or wanting to enter a team is encouraged to attend. Please refer any questions to Matt Gurtler via phone call or text at 301-697-1629.

Horseshoe league to meet Monday

CUMBERLAND — The Cumberland Horseshoe League will meet Monday, 6 p.m. at the Cumberland Outdoor Club.

Anyone interested in having a team must have a representative present.

The league starts Tuesday, April 8.

CUMBERLAND — The Times-News is asking boys and girls basketball head coaches to submit nominations for the all-area team to the sports department.

Coaches should turn in names and relevant stats for any players they would like to nominate.

Good Timers golf begins Monday

RAWLINGS  — The Good Timers Golf League at Fore Sisters Golf Club will begin Monday at 4:30. Players should be at the course by 4 p.m., or should call a half an hour early to be placed on a team. Anyone interested in joining the league should contact Fore Sisters.

Steelers sign LeGarette Blount

PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Pittsburgh Steelers and free agent running back LeGarette Blount have agreed on a two-year contract that will give the team needed depth in the backfield behind budding star Le’Veon Bell.

The 27-year-old Blount ran for 772 yards and a career-high seven touchdowns in 2013 for the New England Patriots. He added 166 yards rushing and set a team playoff record with four touchdowns in a playoff win over the Indianapolis Colts.

The Steelers need bodies in the backfield after Jonathan Dwyer and Felix Jones were not re-signed after last season. Blount has 2,711 yards rushing and 20 touchdowns in 56 games, with 28 career starts.

Redskins sign

lineman McGlynn


ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — The Washington Redskins have signed free agent offensive lineman Mike McGlynn.

The team announced the move Friday.

McGlynn can play center and both guard positions. He’s started 48 games over five NFL seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, Cincinnati Bengals and Indianapolis Colts.
