Frostburg State skid hits six

FROSTBURG — An early second-half surge proved too much for Frostburg State as it dropped its Capital Athletic Conference opener to Mary Washington, 75-48, Wednesday evening at Bobcat Arena.

The Eagles (5-1, 1-0 CAC) shot 52 percent from the field in the first half and held a nine-point cushion at the break, 35-26. However, it was a 15-3 run early in the second half that built the Mary Washington lead to 19 points (52-33) with 13:56 left. The largest lead was 75-45 with 1:38 remaining.

Frostburg (0-6, 0-1) trailed by as many as 14 in the first half, but was able to cut the deficit to seven, 37-30, less than three minutes into the second.

The Bobcats shot just 29 percent (18 of 63) from the floor and scored a season-low 48 points in the loss. Tyler Campbell was the lone Bobcat starter in double figures with 11 points and six rebounds. Royce Hunsberger came off the bench to add 10 points and six boards.

Dylan Farinet had a game-high 24 points to lead three Mary Washington starters in double figures. John Yoxthimer led both teams with 10 rebounds as the Eagles outrebounded Frostburg 49-36.

FSU will host Wesley in a conference game on Saturday at 3 p.m.
