Ranker, Lee lead PSC in rout

Unbeaten Cats roll over Westmoreland, 7-0; FSU shuts out Altoona

KEYSER, W.Va. — Chris Ranker and Brandon Lee both scored two goals, while Lee assisted on two and Ranker one, to lead the Potomac State College Catamounts to 7-0 victory over Westmoreland Wednesday at Stayman Field.

Ranker, a sophomore forward from Mountain Ridge, scored unassisted at 35:15 to make it 2-0, and then at 42:30 of the second half on an assist by Lee to put the Catamounts up, 4-0.

Lee, a freshman from Brisbane, Australia, scored on a Ranker assist at 34:29 of the first to make it 3-0, then again at 24:58 of the second on a Shaquille Guiseppi assist to make it 5-0.

Theo Richardson scored the first goal of the game, unassisted at 43:13. In the second half, Derek Swanson made it 6-0 at 24:00 on an assist by Lee. The final goal came when former Hampshire Trojan Chris Bookwalter scored on an assist by Michael Blackburn at 6:00.

Potomac State outshot Westmoreland, 33-11, and had a 10-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Former Mountain Ridge Miner Connor Eberly recorded his third shutout in a row with seven saves in goal. Shawn Rosky had 23 saves for Westmoreland.

Potomac State (4-0-1 overall, 2-0-1 Region XX) will host Northern Virginia Monday at 4 p.m. Westmoreland, which was playing its first Region XX game, is now 2-2.

Penn State-Altoona    0

ALTOONA, Pa. — Alex Brainard and Brandon Rodgers scored second-half goals to lead Frostburg State to a victory over Penn State Altoona in college men’s soccer Tuesday evening.

After a scoreless first half, Brainard put the Bobcats on the board on the second shot of the second half, floating a shot over Altoona keeper Aaron Ballish at 52:04 for his first goal of the season.

In the 81st minute, after a scramble in front of the Penn State goal, Rodgers scored on an assists from Jared Fohs to make it 2-0.

Frostburg (5-1) led in shots 13-6. Goalie Drew Hock made two saves for his third shutout of the season.

Frostburg plays again at Hood on Tuesday.
