Fans buses set for Alco away games

CUMBERLAND — Buses will be chartered to take spectators to Allegany High School football away games. The bus going to Ridgeway on Friday, Oct. 4, leaves the big parking lot at Allegany at 1:30 p.m.; and to Calvert on Friday, Oct. 11, 1:30 p.m.

Times-News requesting football statistics

CUMBERLAND — The Cumberland Times-News is requesting football statistics from the head coaches or statisticians of the area’s high school football teams. A list of area leaders will run in Friday’s Scoreboard Page if enough teams report.

Coaches are asked to submit individual player stats to Chris Appel by email (cappel@times-news.com), fax (301-722-5270) or mail (Cumberland Times News, P.O. Box 1662/21501, Cumberland, MD, 21502).

 

Butler sweeps ACM volleyball

CUMBERLAND — Morgan Ruppenkamp went 19-for-19 on attacks in a loss as Allegany College of Maryland was swept 25-20, 25-20, 25-21 by Butler Community College at Bob Kirk Arena on Friday.

Ruppenkamp added four kills and four blocks to her line. Shae Winner was 17-for-19 with two kills and 10 digs. Parris Duncan converted 20-of-25 with six kills and 19 digs. Mazy Diehl went 16-for-17, including 16 digs and five kills. Ally Hawkins was 34-for-35 on sets with 11 assists and 13 digs.

Allegany College (3-5) plays again today at home against Essex at 1 p.m.

 

MR girls top Washington 5-3 in a shootout

FROSTBURG — Mountain Ridge won 5-3 in a shootout after a 0-0 tie in regulation against Washington at the Mountain Ridge Shootout Friday.

The Miners managed just six shots on goal to Washington’s 12. Chelsea Muir saved nine for Mountain Ridge and Melody Hayes stopped five for Washington.

Anna Broadwater, Erica Wilson, Jenna Miller, Niven Hegeman and Samantha Sines scored in the shootout.

In the junior varsity game,  Blair Willey’s second half goal was enough for Mountain Ridge in a 1-0 win over Washington.

The score came with 25:46 remaining on a long throw-in by Lilly Hewitt, deflected by Kamryn Logsdon, to Willey.

The squads combined for just eight shots on goal. Emily Harden had three saves to record her third shutout in four games. Melody Hayes stopped four in the loss.

Mountain Ridge (3-1) plays Northern today at 2 p.m. in the Mountain Ridge Shootout.

The Mountain Ridge varsity (4-0-1) plays Altoona today at 6 p.m.
