SHORT GAP, W.Va. — In a match-up of top-four teams in West Virginia Class AA, Brady Watson rushed for 139 yards on 26 carries, scoring his 18th touchdown of the season, and Noah Bible carried 10 times for 115 yards and two touchdowns to lead the undefeated Frankfort Falcons over the Fairmont Senior High Polar Bears, 21-6, Friday night at Frankfort.
The Falcons (6-0) entered the game rated No. 2 in Class AA, while the Bears (4-2) were tied for No. 4 after being rated No. 1 last week before falling to Bridgeport, the No. 3 team entering the weekend which defeated No. 10 Keyser last night, 41-0.
After a scoreless first quarter, Noah Hartman gave the Polar Bears a short-lived lead, scoring on a 13-yard touchdown with 10:34 left in the second quarter. The pass for two points, however, was unsuccessful.
The Falcons came back to take the lead for good when Watson went over from two yards out, with Nick Howser’s kick making it 7-6 with 8:20 left in the half.
In the third quarter, with 16 seconds remaining, Bible scored his first touchdown from 15 yards out, with Howser’s kick making it 14-6. With the Falcons defense, which limited Fairmont to 62 yards rushing and 72 passing, continuing to do its job, Bible broke the game open for Frankfort, scoring on a 66-yard run with 7:41 left in the game, with Howser’s kick making the eventual final 21-6.
At linebacker, Watson led the Frankfort defense with nine tackles, while Jonny Hedrick and Stefan Buser both had six tackles each.
Frankfort quarterback Gage Shaffer completed 5 of 10 passes for 52 yards with no interceptions, and the Falcons rushed for 236 yards on 48 carries to total 288 for the evening.
Frankfort will host Washington on Friday.
Mountain Ridge 12
FROSTBURG — Clintell Gillaspie had 257 total yards to lead Monessen in a 52-12 demolition of Mountain Ridge Friday night during the Miners Homecoming
Gillaspie used his 6-foot-1, 230-pound frame to rumble for 17.7 yards per carry, including two touchdowns on the ground and one through the air.
The Greyhounds score three times in the opening quarter, starting with a 24-yard pass from Noah Rullo to Justice Rawlins 1:28 in. Demond Jordan caught a 27-yard pass seven minutes later to make it 14-0. Javon brown capped off the first quarter with a 51-yard punt return for a touchdown to put it at 20-0.
Mountain Ridge (1-5) got on the board with 4:36 left in the half on a 14-yard run by Rashawn Johnson.
Gillaspie and the Hounds answered caught a screen pass and went 49 yards to give the Greyhounds a 26-6 advantage. They extended their lead at the end of the half when Irvin Green a caught a 10-yard pass on a hook route and lateralled it to Javon Brown who ran 17 yards to make it 32-6.
Monessen (6-1) piled on in the third when Gillaspie went 61 yards and Demond Jordan took an interception 70 yards on the ensuing possession for a 45-6 score.
Gillaspie’s third score was a 10-yard run 15 seconds into the fourth.
Logan Jeffries ran 58 yards for the Miners with 5:50 remaining.
Rullo completed 6 of 7 for 143 yards and Brown ran for 66 yards on six carries.
Johnson ran well again, accounting for 173 yards on 29 attempts, and Jeffries had 10 carries for 79 yards in the loss.
Mountain Ridge hosts Northern Friday.
