Fort Hill, Allegany lose

Parkersburg South cruises to 87-57 win

CUMBERLAND — Parkersburg South drained 14 three-pointers in an 87-57 rout of Fort Hill at the Fort Hill F Club Christmas Classic Thursday.

The Sentinels were down just 14-10 at the end of the first quarter.

Parkersburg South’s barrage of threes led to a 26-point second period while Fort Hill scored 21 to make it a nine-point deficit at halftime.

Fort Hill was unable to trade baskets with the Patriots as the game went on. Parkersburg South led 63-46 after three and went on to win by 30.

Travis Bush led the Sentinels with 15 points and Jarrett Wolfe added 13.

Doug Dennis hit six threes on his way to 23 points. While Tyler Bolen scored 14 and Wes Mitchem chipped in 11 for Parkersburg South (4-1).

Fort Hill (2-3) hosts St. Maria Goretti today at 7:30.

CUMBERLAND — Martin Geben and Tyrus Fleetwood each scored more than 20 points and St. Maria Goretti pulled away from Allegany in the second and third quarters to open the Fort Hill F Club Classic with a win over the Campers.

Geben scored a game-high 22 points and Tyrese went for 21 more as the duo accounted for over half of Goretti’s scoring. Isaiah Harris-Winn added 10 points for the Gaels.

Allegany was led in scoring by Christian Thomas and his 19 points. The senior also added six rebounds. Calman McKenzie recorded 16 points, six rebounds and three steals, and Colton Sivic scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for a double-double. Trenton Eirich added 11 points and Hayden Bosley finished with eight assists and seven points.

The Campers (4-2) constructed a 17-14 lead over the first eight minutes before the Gaels outscored Allegany 26-16 in the second quarter to lead 40-33 at halftime. Goretti was ahead 64-47 at the close of the third.

The Campers will play Parkersburg today at 6 o’clock in the second day of the classic.

RICHMOND, Va. — Robert Johnson had 22 points and six assists for Benedictine in a blowout of Bishop Walsh in the Benedictine Capital Classic Thursday.

The Spartans came out even in rebounding despite Benedictine not having a player under 6-foot-1. The Cadets shot 10-for-22 from three-point range. Benedictine went up 27-14 after one. Bishop Walsh scored 17 in the second to make it 40-31 at halftime.

Benedictine’s sharp-shooting continued in the second half while the Spartans went cold, scoring just 10 points and trailing by 20 after three.

Quincy Redmon had 13 points and 13 boards. Brandon Reed scored 12 and Chris Scarlett added 11 and three steals for the Spartans.

Raymon Minor contributed 12 points for Benedictine.

Bishop Walsh (8-1) plays Douglas S. Freeman today at 5:30 p.m.

OAKLAND — John Carroll’s 29-point fourth quarter propelled them to a win over Tyrone in the Snowflake Classic at Southern Thursday.

Tyrone held on to a slim lead in the first half. It led 9-8 at the end of one and 27-25 at the break.

John Carroll took control after halftime with a 17-8 third quarter and a 29-14 fourth.

Nicole Gripp led Tyrone with 19 points and Alex Brooks scored 13.

Marta Moix had a game-high 22. Yemaya Johnson added 12 points for the Patriots.

John Carroll plays Southern in the championship game today at 12:30 p.m.

CUMBERLAND — Jason Copman scored a game-high 14 points for Allegany, but Altoona White came away with a 40-37 victory over the Campers in freshman basketball Thursday afternoon.

Nate Green added 11 points and Bryson Shepherd had seven for Allegany.

Buddy Corl led Altoona White with 12 points.

Allegany (3-2) plays again Friday, Jan. 4, at Mountain Ridge, at 6 p.m.
