Southern saves victory at the foul line

CUMBERLAND — Five players scored in double figures for Allegany as the Campers earned their third consecutive win, 89-44, against Keyser at Allegany on Tuesday.

Calman McKenzie and Colton Sivic, who each scored 16 points, led the Campers in scoring. Trenton Eirich added 12, while Mario D’Atri and Christian Thomas each scored 10.

McKenzie had six steals and Sivic grabbed eight rebounds.

The Campers jumped out to a significant, 27-6, lead after the first quarter, and they virtually put the game away with a  21-9 second quarter to lead 48-15 at intermission.

Allegany cruised in the second half, 41-29, with their bench getting most of the playing time.

Dakota Proud scored 11 in the loss.

Allegany won they jayvee game, 61-36. Darquel Jessie led all scorers with 20. Darick Kearns and Trevor Evix each had 12. Carson Imes chipped in 10 for the Campers.

Drew Roy led the Golden Tornado with 10.

Allegany (7-3) plays at Fort Hill Friday at 7:30 p.m.

The Golden Tornado  (1-5) dropped their second in a row after getting their first win on Jan. 2. and hosts Mountain Ridge Friday at 7:30 p.m.

OAKLAND — Brian Wildman had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, and Southern was almost perfect from the foul line in the clutch as the Rams downed the Miners Tuesday evening in AMAC basketball.

Wildman was second on the Rams in scoring, finishing behind Alex Fike’s 16-point effort. Landon Todd added nine points for the Rams.

Southern took a double-digit lead (14-4) on Mountain Ridge by the time the first quarter ended, and led by six points at the end of the second (23-17) and third quarters (33-27). The Miners opened the fourth quarter with six straight to tie the score, before Southern slowly worked its way back in front. The Rams converted 9 of 11 free throws over the final minutes to secure their fifth win of the year.

The Miners received 17 points from Rashawn Johnson, and 10 more from Brandon Markwood.

Josh Adams scored 12 points and Logan Cvetnick added 11 in Southern’s 48-29 junior varsity victory. Dylan Shimko scored 12 for Mountain Ridge.

The Rams also won at the freshman level, 34-31. Will Fredlock paced Southern with 12 points. Justin Halbritter scored a game-high 19 points in the loss.

Southern (5-6, 4-4 AMAC) plays Tucker at home on Friday. The Miners (4-6, 3-3) are at Keyser on Friday.

  • Carr has 10 RBIs as Northern splits pair

    HANCOCK — Brooks Carr hit two home runs and drove in 10 runs on the day as Northern split a pair of games at the Hancock Easter Classic, beating Broadfording Academy 26-1 before losing to St. James 10-6. Against Broadfording, Carr hit a three-run homer in a 10run first inning, and also had a two-run double, an RBI single and a sacrifice fly to finish with seven RBIs. He also teamed with Brett Oates on a four-inning no-hitter. Carr struck out seven over the first three innings and Oates fanned two in the fourth.
