FSU opens indoor track at Marietta

MARIETTA, Ohio — Sophomore Chris Rickell tied for first place in the high jump in leading the Frostburg State men’s track and field team at the Marietta Open on Saturday.

The Bobcats opened the 2013 portion of their indoor season with six top-five finishes.

Rickell cleared 1.80 meters and finished in a four-way tie for the win, the only one for FSU.

Matt Collins was second in the 500-meter dash (1:10.95), and the 200 relay team of Jason Jackson, Percy Haskins, Ian Facey and Devin Francillon finished second in 1:38.82.

Trey Davis nearly toppled a school record as he finished fifth in the weight throw with a toss of 47.34 feet (14.43 meters), just 4.1 inches short of the mark.

On the women’s side, Morgan Carroll had the only top-five finish for the Bobcats. She finished in a three-way tie for second place in the high jump (1.55 meters), just missing the ECAC Championship qualifying mark by 0.03 meters.

Frostburg State will compete in the Ursinus (Pa.) Pentathlon on Wednesday.
