KEYSER, W.Va. — Courtney Landis hit a pair of free throws with 4.6 seconds to go to break a tie game and send fifth-ranked Allegany to a 33-31 win over fourth-ranked Keyser in Appalachian Mountain Athletic Conference girls basketball Thursday night.
The Campers, who got revenge for a four-point loss to the Golden Tornado earlier in the year, trailed 30-20 after three quarters. Allegany roared back by outscoring Keyser 13-1 in the fourth quarter. Landis led the charge by going 6 for 8 from the foul line in the period.
Landis finished with a game high 14 points and two three-point goals and Keke Page also canned a pair of three-pointers and had eight points for Allegany (11-7, 6-7 AMAC), who have won four in a row.
Sam Hoban had 13 points and Lexi Carr 10 for Keyser (11-7, 8-5).
Keyser won the jayvee game 42-37. Kayla Simon had 14 points and Sidney Lyons 11 for the Tornado. Kyra Merrill had nine and Breana Fagan eight for the Campers.
Keyser will host Berkeley Springs in a makeup game on Saturday at 2:30. Allegany plays again Monday at Frankfort.
No. 3 Mountain Ridge 56
PETERSBURG, W.Va. — Anna Broadwater scored 16 points, nailed four three-point goals and also had six rebounds and a pair of assists as third-ranked Mountain Ridge powered past Petersburg.
Sarah Raines also had a good game with 11 points, eight rebounds and three steals for the Miners (13-3), who won their fourth straight. Carlie Lewis added 10 points and Shae Winner had nine.
Samantha Rohrbaugh and Allison Brown led Petersburg (5-11) with seven points.
Mountain Ridge got out the blocks quickly and led 17-5 after the first quarter. It was 31-10 at halftime.
Mountain Ridge also won the jayvee game 42-23 with Lexie Metz, Amie Blank and Molly Winner scoring 10 points each. Rebecca Landis and Taylor See had six for Petersburg.
Petersburg hsots Tucker County tonight. Mountain Ridge play at Northern on Monday.
ACCIDENT — Kirsten Rayner scored 18 points and Northern jumped on Moorefield early and cruised to a victory over the Yellow Jackerts.
Rayner hit five field goals and 8 of 11 free throws for the Huskies, who led 20-2 after the first quarter. Eight player scored, with Allison Yommer adding eight points and Emily Fratz and Rhiannon Dodge seven.
Katelyn Wills led Moorefield with five.
Northern won the jayvee game 39-36 behind a 19-point game by Emily Parandhamaia. Alisha Redmon had 11 points.
Northern lost at Preston 48-35 on Wednesday night. Rayner had a game high 20 points for the Huskies.
M.J. Braham had 16 for Preston (11-4), No. 10 in the West Virginia Class AA state poll.
Northern (4-13) plays at Hampshire in a makeup game tonight.
St. James 42
Bishop Walsh 35
CUMBERLAND — K. Kline and M. Fahey had 13 points apiece to lift St. James past Bishop Walsh.
A close game throughout, St. James (6-13) led 25-21 at halftime and 29-28 after three periods.
Nicole Ross led Bishop Walsh with 12 points and nine rebounds.
Bishop Walsh won the jjunior varsity game 23-9 with Maggie Mathews scoring 13 points.
BW (1-21) hosts Paw Paw on Saturday at 11 a.m.
