ACM drops nail-biter, 64-63

Baker: ‘We’re a lot more talented than our record shows’

CUMBERLAND — Allegany had possession in the final 28 seconds and got a shot off prior to the buzzer, but the shot didn’t fall and by the time the Trojans had rebounded, the final buzzer had sounded in a 64-63 Maryland JUCO loss to Catonsville Wednesday at Bob Kirk Arena.

Fleming led Catonsville with 19 points, while Jackson hit for 15 and Woods 10.

Allegany (2-8) was led by Ricky Mosley with 17 points and six rebounds. Alex Brayboy and Larry Terry both scored 14 points, while Davon Williams led the Trojans with seven rebounds.

Allegany led 34-29 at the half despite enduring cold shooting from the field.

“In the first half we had trouble with the shot going down,” said Allegany head coach Mike Baker. “We were getting the shot, but it wasn’t going in. Plus, we did not rebound well and I didn’t like our defensive intensity; it’s not where it should be. In the second half, (Catonsville) got hot with the threes.

“Not taking anything at all away from Catonsville, but I’m very disappointed with our effort tonight. We didn’t play with heart tonight. We’re kind of in a hole right now, and we need to do something individually and as a team to get out of it. We’re a lot more talented than our record shows.”

Allegany will host Lenior Friday, 7 p.m., in the Allegany College of Maryland Christmas Classic. In the first game of the night, Garrett will take on USC Salkehatchie at 5 p.m.
