Mountain Ridge, Northern advance
Anna Broadwater’s blistering first quarter gave Mountain Ridge a lead and Amie Blank’s dead-eye accuracy in the fourth enabled the Miners to hold on to it Saturday in a 55-49 win over Catoctin in the first round of the Class 2A West Region, Section I girls basketball tournament.
Garrett stuns No. 2 Beaver
DeAndre Davis and Frank Holloway finished with double-doubles and Garrett got tremendous support from its bench to knock off the No. 2 team in all of NJCAA Division II, Beaver (Pa.) County, 76-73, and advance to today’s Region XX-B Tournament championship game with a berth in the national tournament hanging in the balance.

Dundalk ends Cats’ season
Potomac State stalled coming off the starting block and the Catamounts trailed by 10 points before they knew what hit them as Dundalk ended PSC’s season with a 68-55 win Friday night at Cecil Community College in the quarterfinals of the NJCAA Region XX Division II Tournament.
Southern scorches Huskies
Lucas Ritchie scored 23 points to lead three scorers in double figures as Southern advanced in the Class 1A West Region playoffs with a 65-41 win over Northern in a Section I quarterfinal Friday night at Garrett College.
Frostburg fends off Pitt-Greensburg
Kenny Georgius pitched six strong innings, Ricky Brady had three hits and Frostburg State held off Pitt-Greensburg for a 7-5 win and remained unbeaten in college baseball action in the Bobcat Invitational on Friday.
