CUMBERLAND - Evelyn Louise "Dixie" Evix, 61, of Cumberland, went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at her residence surrounded by members of her family.
Born June 10, 1946 in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Morgan and Alice (Bennett) Morgan. She was also preceded in death by one son, Robert Grapes.
Dixie was a former employee of Martins Market. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and sister. She always enjoyed being with her grandchildren and hearing stories about their activities. When she was able, Dixie loved attending the activities of her grandchildren particularly cheerleading and ball game events.
Surviving are two sons, Thomas S. "Tucker" Evix and fiancée Amy Shillingburg, Cresaptown and Danny R. Evix and wife Tricia, Cumberland; grandchildren, Shane Evix, Presley Evix, Trevor Evix, Brody Evix, Lyndsey Evix, Dennis Crowe and Kaitlin Shillingburg; four brothers, Thomas Morgan and wife Linda, Cumberland, James "Bo" Whitacre, Cumberland, Eddie Whitacre and wife Brenda, Cumberland and Terry Whitacre, Cumberland; two sisters, Kitty Gross and husband Robert, Port Saint Lucy, Fla. and Diane Melvin, Cumberland; special friend, Charlie Miller; step-mother, Thelma Whitacre, Cumberland; several half brothers and sisters who reside in the Baltimore area; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, (scarpellifh.com) on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Harold R. McClay Jr. officiating.
At her request her body will be cremated.
