Shirley G. (Harvey) Squires [Cumberland]

CUMBERLAND - Shirley Grace (Harvey) Squires, 72, of Cumberland, passed away Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at WMHS-Memorial Campus.

Born Feb. 10, 1936, in Mountain Lake Park, she was the daughter of Ramona May Harvey Davis, Cumberland and the late Lester W. Harvey. She was also preceded in death by one son, James Richard Squires Jr.

Mrs. Squires was a homemaker and the manager and owner of Gardener's Candy Store, Keyser, W.Va. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church where she was very active in various committees and was a Youth Leader. She volunteered at the Rocky Gap Camp Grounds and was a member of the Keyser Kiwanis Club.

Shirley was a loving and devoted wife, mother and granny.

Surviving in addition to her mother are her husband, of 52 years, J. Richard "Dick" Squires; she was the loving mother to Jennifer Lynn Long and husband Ed, Fort Ashby, W.Va. and Julie Lynn Squires, Bedford, Pa.; five grandchildren, Ed J.R. Long, Morgan L.G. Long, Tanner J.N. Long, MacKenzie L.R. Long and Rachael J. Squires; two sisters, Charlotte J. McCullough and husband Robert, Ridgeley, W.Va. and Thelma M. Delawter and husband Tony, Frederick; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, (scarpellifh.com) on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at St. John's Lutheran Church on Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Mark C. Dill officiating. There will be one hour visitation prior to the service at the church.

Interment will be in the Maryland State Veterans Cemetery, Rocky Gap, Flintstone.
