W. Gwendolyn (Morrow) Medcalf [Cumberland]

CUMBERLAND — W. Gwendolyn (Morrow) Medcalf, 80, of Lions Center for Rehabilitation, Cumberland, and formerly of Ringgold, died on Monday, June 29, 2009, at Braddock Hospital.
Born on April 7, 1929, in Catonsville, she was the daughter of the late Robert B. and M. Catherine (Taylor) Morrow. She was preceded in death by her husband, George A. Medcalf; and by her brother, Robert E. Morrow.
A graduate of Western High School in Baltimore, she was a homemaker, pianist and artist with a myriad of interests. She had an active volunteer life, serving as a den mother for the Boy Scouts, a 4-H girls’ leader, a hospital volunteer, a U.S.O. volunteer during World War II, playing organ for her church and performing for church pageants. She belonged to the Washington County Homemakers Club and was president of the Art Club. Gwen was particularly interested in spirituality, including A.R.E., Spiritual Frontiers Fellowship, channeling, astrology, numerology and Healing Circle. In addition to her music, she painted, quilted, wrote poetry and stories and made ceramics.
She is survived by her three sons, Todd Scott Medcalf, his wife Debra and daughters Kelley and Cassandra, Stephens City, Va.; Thomas Morrow Medcalf, his wife Evelyn and daughters Sarah and Kate, Wellington, Fla.; and Travis Taylor Medcalf and wife Elizabeth, Frostburg; her sister, M. Elise Morrow, Frostburg; and her sister-in-law, Pat Sharer, Warrenton, Va.
A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
