John “Jack” Bernard Heaton [Cumberland]

CUMBERLAND — John “Jack” Bernard Heaton, 66, of Cumberland, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at WMHS-Memorial Campus.
Born July 4, 1942, in Wheeling, W.Va., he was the son of the late Bernard J. and Catherine (Workenhour) Heaton. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Robert L. Heaton.
Mr. Heaton served proudly in the U.S. Navy as Chief Petty Officer, retiring with 30 years service. Jack served on a PBR in the Mekong Delta during the Vietnam War. After retiring from the service, Jack worked for Biederlack, Cumberland.
Jack was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved to spend time in the outdoors. He was a devoted husband, who was dedicated to taking wonderful care of his wife through her prolonged illness and their loyal pet, Pammy. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife of 39 years, Helen Wanetta Heaton; one daughter, Beverly Nixon and husband Steve, Cumberland; two sons, James Bierman Jr. and wife Vickie, LaVale, Ronald Bierman and wife Vickie, Jacksonville, Fla.; two sisters, Eileen Griffiths and husband Donald, Martins Ferry, Ohio, Margaret H. Ball and husband Roy, Fairmont, W.Va.; one brother, Timothy J. Heaton and friend Theresa, Wheeling; 10 grandchildren, Ronald Bierman Jr., Cumberland, Steven Nixon Jr. and wife Lisa, Canton, Ohio, Trina McGregor and husband Tim, LaVale, Karen Stafford and husband Keith, Cumberland, Bruce Bierman and wife Valerie, Frankfort, Ill., Stephanie Clise and husband Jason, LaVale, Jennifer Hamilton and husband Chad, Cumberland, Jason Bennett and wife Nicole, Cumberland, Jennifer Stafford and husband R.J., Harrisonburg, Va., Jared Bennett and wife Nicki, Ridgeley, W.Va.; and numerous great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, scarpellifuneralhomes.com on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral and committal services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Joseph DiNicola officiating.
Military honors will be accorded by Veterans of Vietnam Post Chapter 172.
Interment will be in Maryland State Veteran’s Cemetery at Rocky Gap, Flintstone.
