Iona "Toni" Harrison [Accident]
ACCIDENT - Iona "Toni" Efird Harrison, 87, of Cherry Hill Assisted Living Complex, Accident, formerly of Statesville, N.C., died Saturday, May 3, 2008, at the Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born on July 15, 1920, in Albemarle, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Titus P. and Beulah C. (Mills) Efird. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Richard H. Harrison.
She grew up in Salisbury, N.C., one of six children. After completing school in Salisbury, she married Richard Hiawatha "Bub" Harrison. Most of her married life was in Statesville, where she raised two children. After moving to Garrett County, she resided in Oakland and Accident, where she made many friends as a result of acquaintances established through her involvement with the Area Agency on Aging.
She is survived by one daughter, Lynn H. Bell and husband Jerry L., Oakland; one son, Richard E. Harrison Sr. and wife Carolyn L., Ashe, N.C.; one sister, Eunice Rogers, Sarasota, Fla.; six grandchildren, Jonathan D. and Noelle C. Bell, McHenry, Richard E. and Victoria Harrison Jr., Rutherfordton, N.C., and W. Bradley and Elizabeth Lewis, Somerset, N.J.; and one great-granddaughter, Ashley Harrison, Rutherfordton.
Inurnment will take place at the Oakwood Cemetery (Old Veteran's Section) in Statesville, on Friday, May 9, 2008, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Don Shuman of the Broad Street United Methodist Church.
The family requests that memorials take the form of contributions to the Area Agency on Aging of Garrett County, MD, 104 E. Center St., Oakland, MD 21550.
The Stewart Funeral Home, 32 S. Second St., Oakland, and the Nicholson Funeral Home, Statesville, are in charge of arrangements.
