Maryland (Dickey) Henckel [Eckhart]

MORANTOWN - Maryland (Dickey) Henckel, 82, of Morantown, died Sunday, July 13, 2008, at her son's residence in Meyersdale, Pa.

Born Jan. 25, 1926, in Zihlman, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Florence (Hixenbaugh) Dickey. Maryland was raised by her beloved grandmother and grandfather, John and Henrietta Hixenbaugh.

She was a 1943 graduate of Beall High School.

Maryland is preceded in death by her parents; her grandparents; and her brother, Thomas Dickey, who was killed in the Korean War.

She was a loving housewife and mother. She loved fresh flowers and green plants. She was a person who never got angry and loved friends. She and her husband, William, operated Geno's Sports Cards in Cumberland.

She is survived by her loving husband, William Henckel, of Morantown; son, Eugene Henckel, of Meyersdale; and two sisters, Virginia Tharp, of Borden Mines, and Jean Dickey, of Frostburg.

Maryland had many special friends including Michael Staup and Mary Turbin.

Maryland's body will be cremated.

Graveside services will be held in the chapel at Maryland State Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap on Wednesday, July 16, 2008, at 10 a.m.

Inurnment will be at Maryland State Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Somerset In-Touch Hospice, 223 S. Pleasant Ave., Suite 103, Somerset, PA 15501.
