Gerald Ray Swanger [Cumberland]

CUMBERLAND — Gerald Ray Swanger, 71, of Cumberland, passed away Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, at his residence.
Born Aug. 7, 1938, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Jesse Willard Swanger and Willa Ellen (Mummert) Swanger.
Mr. Swanger was retired from Streets Body and Fender Shop. He was a member of the Improved Order of the Redman Sioux Tribe where he was a great past Sachem. He enjoyed golfing, softball, fishing and spending time with family and friends and he especially loved his grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife, Leona Swanger; two sons, Kevin Swanger, Cumberland, and Leland Swanger, Cumberland; two daughters, Linda Lee Owens and Arlington of Cumberland, and Mary Ann Bean and husband Scott, Cumberland; one grandson, Corbin Swanger; eight grandchildren, Amber, Wayne, April, Krystal, Candice, Dylan, Rob-ert and Arlington; four great-grandchildren; four sisters, Joyce McCarty, Cumberland, Bernadine Houdersheldt, Wiley Ford, W.Va., Leeann Stickley, Cumberland, and Karen Bolinger and husband Nick, Cumberland; four brothers, Donald Swanger and wife Earlene, Georgia, Leo Swan-ger and wife Sandy, Martinsburg, W.Va., Rick Swanger and special friend Diana, Cumberland, and Randy Swanger, Cumberland.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, scarpellifuneralhomes.com on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Improved Order of Redman will hold a memorial service at the funeral home on Wednesday at noon.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Audry Brown officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family to assist with funeral expenses.
