CUMBERLAND — On Nov. 15, 2008, Summer Dawn Nicol and Mark Alan Farris were united in marriage. The double ring ceremony took place at the First Presbyterian Church of Cumberland, with Pastor Thomas Morgan officiating.
The bride is the daughter of Gregory and Nikki Nicol of Lonaconing. The groom is the son of Carol Farris and the late Ronald Farris of Keyser, W.Va. The bride was given in marriage by her parents and was escorted to the altar by her father.
Serving as maid of honor was Shannon Nicol, sister of the bride. Bridesmaids were Leslie Nightingale, friend of the bride; Paula Nightingale, friend of the bride; Autumn Hutcheson, cousin of the bride; and Lacey Hutcheson, cousin of the bride. Junior bridesmaid was Hannah Raines, niece of the bride and Eden Farris, niece of the groom, served as the flower girl.
Serving as best man was Tracy Gilmore, friend of the groom. Groomsmen were Joseph Farris and Andrew Farris, brothers of the groom; Vincent Monseau, friend of the groom; and John Kelly, friend of the groom. Junior groomsman was Lucas Farris, nephew of the groom and Noah Raines, nephew of the bride, served as the ring bearer.
AnnaClaire Farris, niece of the groom; Logan Farris and Noah Farris, nephews of the groom greeted guests and distributed programs and bubbles. The pianist for the ceremony was Louise Johnson, friend of the bride. Musical selections, chosen by the bride and groom for the ceremony, were performed by Laura Groves, friend of the bride. Cathy Maynard, friend of the bride and groom, served as coordinator for the wedding ceremony.
The bride wore a strapless ivory gown with metallic lace on the bodice, skirt and train from David’s Bridal. The bride carried an ivory rose bouquet with a gold locket of her great grandmother’s tied into the design. Reba Kriglein of Victorian Creations, designed the bouquets for the bridesmaids and the floral arrangements for the altar.
Flowers were placed on the altar in remembrance of Ronald Farris, father of the groom; Andrew Nicol, grandfather of the bride; Betty Fazenbaker, grandmother of the bride; Elizabeth “Bid” and Hugh Fazenbaker, great grandparents of the bride; Sybilla and Mittie Farris, grandparents of the groom; Joseph and Mary Pyles, grandparents of the groom; and Elaine Nightingale, special friend of the bride.
A reception immediately followed the ceremony at the Frostburg State University Lane Center. It was coordinated and catered by Jennifer Scarborough and ARAMARK catering. The five tiered wedding cake was provided by Sherry Laffey of Patti Cakes.
Photography was provided by Penny Knobel-Besa and videography was provided by Michael Helmstetter. Music throughout the evening was provided by the Full Effect band and disc jockey Gizmo. The couple danced their first dance to “Got It Right This Time” by Keith Urban.
A Sunday brunch was held in honor of the bride and groom at their home. Following the brunch, the couple honeymooned for a week in Aruba at the Occidental Grand Aruba Hotel and Resort. Guests attended the wedding from Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Washington, D.C., New Jersey, Kentucky, Ohio and California.
The bride is a 1994 graduate of Westmar High School. She obtained her bachelor of science degree in business administration technology in 2001 from Bowie State University.
The groom is a 1986 graduate of Keyser High School. He obtained his bachelor of science degree in accounting from Frostburg State University in 1990. He also obtained his law degree from West Virginia University College of Law in 1994. He is currently employed as vice president/chief financial officer and general counsel for Carl Belt, Inc. and the Belt Group of Companies of Cumberland.
The couple currently resides on Barton Boulevard, Cumberland.
Summer and Mark would like to thank everyone who helped with the wedding and the Sunday brunch. They want to thank their family and friends for sharing in their special day.
