For the Cumberland Times-News

MARCO ISLAND, Fla. — One year ago today, on June 15, 2007, Debra S. Alkire and William J. McElvie Jr. were united in marriage during a double ring sunset ceremony aboard the Marco Island Princess in Marco Island. Capt. James Smith officiated.

Debra is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William O. Alkire of Cumberland. Bill is the son or the late Mr. and Mrs. William J. McElvie Sr. He is the grandson of Mrs. James G. McElvie of Lonaconing.

Given in marriage by her children and escorted to the altar by her son, Zachary A. Alkire, the bride wore a strapless mid-length gown accented with lace and pearls and designed by Alfred Angelo. She wore pearl earrings which were a gift from the groom.

The bridal party wore black dress from Alfred Angelo. Ms. Laura Alkire, Cumberland, daughter of the bride, and Mrs. Nicole Garner, Florida, daughter of the groom, served as attendants. The tropical flower arrangements were designed by Marco Island Florists.

Serving as his father’s best man was Jeffrey McElvie of Pennsylvania. Mr. Caleb McElvie, grandson of the groom, was the ring bearer.

Following the wedding, a dinner cruise through the Gulf of Mexico was enjoyed by friends and family onboard the yacht. Toasts were made by Jeff McElvie, son of the groom, Zachary Alkire, son of the bride, and Ken Alkire, brother of the bride.

The couple honeymooned on Marco Island.

Debra is a kindergarten teacher at Cresaptown Elementary School.

Bill is employed as the store manager at Martin’s in LaVale.

The couple reside on Shamrock Road in Bel Air.

Deb and Bill would like to thank their friends and families for their prayers and blessings as they begin their lives together.
