FROSTBURG — One year ago, on July 5, 2008, Shawna Marie DeVore and Nathan Andrew Shipe were united in marriage at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Frostburg. The double ring ceremony was officiated by Deacon Fred Passauer.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David DeVore of Frostburg. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Patricia Dixon and the late Mr. James Dixon and Mr. and Mrs. Roy DeVore of Frostburg. Shawna is the great-granddaughter of Mrs. Naomi Dixon of Frostburg and Mrs. Viola Beeman of Midland.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Steven Shipe of Evans, Ga. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hutcheson, Mrs. Deloris Shipe and the late Mr. Raymond Shipe of Cumberland and Mr. and Mrs. Roger Anderson of Augusta, W.Va. Nathan is the great-grandson of Mrs. Iona Anderson of Cumberland.
Escorted to the altar by her father and given in marriage by her parents, the bride wore a vintage style ivory wedding gown embellished with silver embroidery and Swarovski crystals with a chapel-length train. She wore a cathedral-length veil edged with silver embroidery and Swarovski crystals and carried a bouquet of ivory roses and stephanotis with pearls. A photo charm of the bride’s late grandfather was tied into the bouquet in remembrance of him.
Janelle DeVore and Alyse DeVore, sisters of the bride, served as maids of honor. Bridesmaids were Shannon Cummings and Stephanie Wampler, friends of the bride. Lindsay Shipe, sister of the groom, served as junior bridesmaid. The bridesmaids and the junior bridesmaid wore burgundy chiffon gowns and carried bouquets of ivory, pink and red roses.
Jordan Shipe, brother of the groom, served as best man. Groomsmen were Rick Kelly, Adam DeVore, Brady Greig and Joel Greig, all friends of the groom.
The organist, Kim Jackson, and the violinist, Jeff Avey, played a beautiful selection of classical music before and during the ceremony. Special Scriptures during the ceremony were read by Scott Anderson, uncle of the groom, and Shelby DeVore, cousin of the bride.
A reception followed the ceremony at the Frostburg State University Lane Center. It was coordinated and catered by Jennifer Scarborough and Aramark catering. Moriah Geis of Moriah K. Photography, friend of the bride and groom, greeted and photographed guests for a photo guest book. Guests were lead to their tables via name cards attached to chandelier crystals. The tables were decorated with lit candles and arrangements of roses and mixed flowers. After special toasts and blessings by the best man, Jordan Shipe, maid of honor, Janelle DeVore, and the groom’s grandfather, Roger Anderson, guests viewed a slideshow presentation of Nathan and Shawna from childhood to the present, produced by Jeremy Murray of J.R. Murray Productions.
The four-tier ivory wedding cake was made by Debbie Dunnivan of Debbie’s Catering, cousin of the bride. The cake was delicately detailed with scrollwork and pearls and topped with roses. Photography was provided by Diane May of Imagine Photography. Videography was provided by Jeremy Murray of J.R. Murray Productions and music was provided by Sounds Fun Entertainment. Flower arrangements for the ceremony and reception were designed by Martin’s.
The groom’s parents hosted a rehearsal dinner in honor of the bride and groom at the Hen House Restaurant where Shawna and Nathan met as former employees.
The bride was honored by a shower given by the bridesmaids and a shower given by her friends and co-workers at Bel Air Elementary School.
Shawna is a graduate of Beall High School and Frostburg State University, with a bachelor’s of science degree in early childhood/elementary education. She is employed by the Allegany County Board of Education as a pre-kindergarten teacher at Parkside and Bel Air elementary schools and is pursuing a master of arts degree in reading.
Nathan is a graduate of Beall High School and Frostburg State University, with a master of arts degree in teaching. He is employed by the Allegany County Board of Education as a history teacher at Mountain Ridge High School.
The couple honeymooned in Maui, Hawaii.
They reside in Frostburg.
