Megan Corder becomes bride of Mark R. Roque

Cumberland Times-News

ROSTBURG — One year ago on July 12, 2008, Megan Dale Corder and Mark Raymond Roque made a promise before their family and friends to love and cherish each other forever. The late afternoon ceremony was performed by the Rev. Rebecca Vardiman at the Frostburg United Methodist Church, which was graced with bouquets of white lilies, roses and gardenias, ivy and tulle.

The bride is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. W. Jack Newhouse, Augusta, W.Va., and Mr. and Mrs. Gary L. Corder, Winchester, Va. The groom is the son of Mrs. Phyllis Roque, Frostburg, and Dr. and Mrs. Angel Roque, Frostburg.

Megan was escorted by her father, and given in marriage by her family. The bride wore an Alfred Angelo strapless gown of diamond white taffeta with corset lacing embellished with embroidery, crystal beading and sequins and a semi-cathedral train. She wore her mother’s bridal veil. The bride’s bouquet of red Williamsburg roses and tiny lilies was designed by Margie Smith, friend of the family.

Julie Crist, Philadelphia, Pa., best friend of the bride, served as the maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Molly Best, Morgantown, W.Va., friend of the bride; Jamie Corder, Kodiak, Alaska, sister-in-law of the bride; Bridget Rosen, Glen Burnie, sister of the groom; Angela Jenkins, Rawlings, sister of the groom; and Amanda Robinson, Hedgesville, W.Va, cousin of the bride. The bridesmaids wore Alfred Angelo gowns of various complementing styles in claret. Their jewelry, a gift from the bride, was rhinestone teardrop earrings and a rhinestone wrap bracelet. They carried white Williamsburg rose bouquets.

The flower girl, Miss Taylor Carter, daughter of friends of the couple, sprinkled the bride’s path with red rose petals. She wore a white Alfred Angelo gown of satin and organza accented with claret satin ribbons.

The groom wore a black Calvin Michaels tuxedo with Windsor tie and silver tone vest, accented by a rosebud boutonniere.

Donny Carter of Frostburg and Todd Hansel of Shamokin, Pa., both friends of the groom, served as best men. Groomsmen were Matt Corder, Kodiak, Alaska, brother of the bride; David Rosen, Glen Burnie, brother-in-law of the groom; Sean White, Frostburg, friend of the groom; and Boyce McCoy, Morgantown, W.Va., friend of the bride and groom. The groomsmen were attired in black Calvin Michaels tuxedos, Windsor ties and vests in claret.

The ring bearer, Todd Bennett, Augusta, W.Va., cousin of the bride, carried a satin pillow adorned with silver hearts and ribbons. Todd wore a Calvin Michaels tuxedo.

Kate Heiser, friend of the bride, greeted guests and invited them to sign the guest book. Wedding programs were distributed by Tanner Bennett, cousin of the bride, assisted by his sister, Tara Bennett.

Selections for the piano, violin and trumpet were performed by pianist Sean Beachy, violinist Jessica Brown, cousin of the bride, and trumpeter Steve Sell. They included “A Wedding Prelude.” “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring,” “The Wedding Processional,” “Trumpet Voluntary” and “The Wedding March”.

Sean White, vocalist and groomsman, performed the song “God Blessed the Broken Road.”

The wedding reception was held at the Ali Ghan Shrine Club, Cumberland. Master of ceremonies Ken Maisel introduced the wedding party and invited the new couple to enjoy their first dance together. Toasts full of love and laughter were given in honor of the new couple by Julie Crist, Todd Hansel, and Donny Carter.

After guests enjoyed a dinner of carved roast beef, crab stuffed flounder, chicken marsala, and various sides, the master of ceremonies invited all of the wedding guests to join the couple on the dance floor.

The tiered wedding cake, with claret ribbons and chocolate filigree, was designed and created by Robert’s Confections.

Celebrations given in honor of the bride and groom leading up to the wedding included an engagement party at the home of Jack and Connie Newhouse, a Ladies Shower given by Phyllis Roque at the Sand Springs Saloon and Steakhouse in Frostburg, a “Chippy” shower given by honorary aunts Jane McBride and Diana Iser at Riverside Farm, and a Beautiful Bride Brunch the morning of the wedding given by maid of honor Julie Crist, aunt Cindy Bowers and cousin Amanda Robinson.

Photography was provided by Randy Adams and Michael Shockey of Focus and Design Photography.
