Golliday, Beitzel wedding

SPRINGS, Pa. — One year ago today, Oct. 25, 2008, Chrystal Marie Beitzel and Christopher Reese Golliday were united in marriage at the Springs Mennonite Church. The double ring ceremony was officiated by Mike Nau, while the ceremony was given by Danny Tice, uncle of the bride.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Galen and Dorothy Beitzel of Grantsville. She is the granddaughter of Freeman and Shirley Beitzel, Grantsville, Henry and Marie Tice, Grantsville, and Anna Mae and Tom Gracie, Clarysville.

The groom is the son of Bonnie and Joe Zembower of LaVale and Kevin Friend of Ellerslie. He is the grandson of Rose Marie Friend, LaVale, and the late Chauncey Friend Jr. and Ellen Golliday of Bowling Green and the late Douglas Golliday.

Escorted to the altar by her father, and given in marriage by her parents, the bride wore a white satin, A-line gown of point d’espirit net with appliqued alencon lace, embroidered with sliver, clear and pearl beading. The gown featured a scalloped empire waist and wide lace border surrounding the hemline, with a chapel-length train. The gown was designed by Mori Lee and special straps made of the same beading and material were made by Phyllis Maust. The bride wore a crystal and pearl tiara and a fingertip-length veil adorned with an outlining of pearl and silver beading. The bride also wore a silver, clear Swarovski crystal necklace, with matching earrings and diamond studs given by the groom as a Valentine’s Day present. She carried a cascading bouquet of lavender roses, pink gerbera dasies. purple caspia and tree fern.

Serving as maids of honor were Charity and Jewell Beitzel, sisters of the bride. Bridesmaids were Andrea Amezcua, Jennifer Devore, and Shannon Winebrenner, all friends of the bride The maids of honor, as well as the bridesmaids, wore pink, floor-length, chiffon dresses designed by Mori Lee. The dresses had delicate embroidered flowers on the bodice with an asymetrical front drape on the A-line skirt. They held hand-wrapped bouquets of pink gerbera dasies, purple caspia and treen fern, along with Austrian crystal necklaces with matching earrings, gifts from the bride. The ladies’ hair was done by Lori, Meghan and Jessica of Hairway Hair. Their makeup was done by Karen Dawson, using Mary Kay products.

Peter Arigman, friend of the groom, came from Sweden to serve as best man. Bob Mckenney, Andy Wilson, Brad Leas and Ty Humbertson, all friends of the groom, served as groomsmen. The groom wore a black tuxedo jacket with a silver vest and tie. The best man and groomsmen wore black tuxedo jackets with black vests and ties.

Flower girl and ring bearer were Mikaliah and Ian Tice, cousins of the bride. Mikaliah wore a white tea-length dress, while Ian wore a tuxedo matching the grooms. In addition to the flower girl and ring bearer, a decorated wagon pulled by tricycle was pedaled by Nathaniel Tice, cousin of bride. Nichole Tice and Ethan Tice, also cousins of the bride, rode in the wagon and dropped pink and purple flower petals.

Guest book attendants were Linda Sheeler and Jane Farrell, aunt of groom. Handing out programs and bubbles were Leanne Tice and Brooke Tice, cousins of the bride. Ushering the guests to their seats were Jared Beitzel, brother of the bride, Matthew Smith, Ian Iliff and Jason Bauer, friends of the groom.

The ceremony started off with Crystal Yoder, friend of the bride, playing the piano accompanied by Madison Lee, cousin of groom, playing the violin. Aunts of the bride, Sandra Durst and Ruth Tice, lit the candleabras after which the mother’s of the couple lit the unity candle. White roses were placed in the front of the church in memory of the groom’s grandfathers. Red roses were given by the bride and groom to their mothers after the saying of their vows.

The reception was held at the Bittinger Mennonite church gym. In charge of decorating was the bride’s aunt, Jencene Tice, who turned the room into a beautiful setting with the bride’s colors of purple and pink. Members of the bridal party and lots of family helped to prepare the room. Gift receivers were cousins of the bride, Joey Overholt, Hunter Tice and Brock Tice, who received the gifts as the guests entered the building. The appetizers and afternoon meal were catered by Charlotte Tice, aunt of the bride, along with Sylvia Mast and Elmer and Sarah Yoder, friends of the bride’s family. The meal was served to the bridal party by Hannah and Matt Byler, Jennifer and Ephriam Kensinger, Olivia Evans, Mason Evans, Taylor Carter, Conrad Tice, Bethany Tice, Kimberly Overholt, Lindsay Overholt and Travis Tice, all cousins of the bride and groom.. A seven-tier cake was created by Bonnie Goebel, who designed it using a hot pink, leafy pattern throughout the cake, hot pink ribbon wrapped around the bases and pink daisies set-off with purple caspia and greeny between the layers. A purple fountain was in the center of the cake. To top off the cake was a heart shaped engagement picture of the couple. Judy Carter and Sandy Evans, aunts of the groom, were responsible for cutting the cake. Favors for the guests included heart-shaped pink and purple sugar cookies with the bride’s and groom’s initials and small picture frames with engagement pictures of the couple. Toasts were given by the maid of honor, Jewell Beitzel, and the best man, Peter Angman. After the toasts, a poem written by the brides father for her entitled “Daddy’s Girl,” was read to her by her father. A slide show was put together for the couple by Lance Bullington, soon to be brother-in-law of the bride, and was shown after the meal. The couple ended the reception with a candy throw for the kids. All pictures were taken by Katie Brenneman of Sonlight Imaging. Videography was taken by Brad Maust. Jay Maust was in charge of sound. All the flower arrangements for the ceremony and reception were put together by Forever Flowers, Salisbury Pa.

A pig roast was given in honor of the bride and groom later in the evening by the groom’s parents, Bonnie and Joe Zembower. Music for the evening was provided by the former band Time Flies.

The couple took a road trip to Key West, Fla., for their honeymoon, where they spent a wonderful week.

A bridal shower was held for the bride by her bridesmaids at Maple Glenn church. Another shower was given for the bride by her co-workers, Linda Sheeler, Tammy Sines, and Breanne Sines, at Goodwill Retirement Community’s Multi-purpose room.

Chrystal is a 2001 graduate of Mountain View Christian School and is currently employed by Goodwill Retirement Community as a geriatric nursing assistant.

Chris is a 1998 graduate of Allegany High School and a 2003 graduate of Frostburg State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Earth science. Chris is currently employed by the city of Cumberland as a police officer and is assigned to the C3I investigation unit.

Chris and Chrystal reside in LaVale with their two dogs, Kimo and Bailey.
