SALISBURY — On Aug. 18, 2007, Alison Clare Insley and Gorman Andrew Getty were united in marriage. The double ring ceremony took place at Asbury United Methodist Church in Salisbury, with the Rev. Glenn Paul Catley Jr. as celebrant.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wade Hampton Insley III of Salisbury. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gorman Eugene Getty III of Frostburg and the grandson of Mrs. Gorman Getty Jr. of Cumberland and Mr. Frank Lee Tipton Wright of Westminster.
The bride was escorted to the altar by her father and wore a bridal gown of ivory antique silk ruching designed by Romona Keveza. The bride carried a cluster of ivory hydrangea and white calla lilies surrounded by a bed of Sahara roses with a touch of blue delphinium. The bride also wore a custom made pearl and crystal bracelet and earrings which were a wedding present from the groom.
The bridal party wore dresses of pale blue antique silk accented by a slight train and a bodice of ruching. The bridal party carried bouquets of ivory and blue hydrangeas mixed with Mozart mini-calla lilies and green hypericurn berries.
Serving as the maid of honor was Miss Anne Louise Hurlock, Philadelphia, Pa., cousin of the bride. Bridesmaids were Miss Erin Elizabeth Getty, Pittsburgh. Pa., sister of the groom; Miss Lindsay Porter Lewis, Sleepy Hollow, N.Y., friend of the bride and roommate at Dickinson College, and Miss Kathryn Beck Soule, Ocean City, childhood friend of the bride. The flower girl was Miss Quinn Caitlyn Madden, Cumberland, friend of the bride and groom.
Serving as best man was Mr. Eric Jay Varney, Bath, Maine, Dickinson college roommate of the groom. Groomsmen were Mr. William George Xavier Hudock, Charlottesville, Va., college friend of the groom; Mr. Wade Hampton Insley IV, Washington, D.C., brother of the bride; Mr. Paul Clarty O’Malley, Rockville, law school friend of the groom; and Mr. Jeffrey Ramsey Woodworth, Washington, D.C., college friend of the groom. The ring bearers were Master Griffin Clay Madden, Cumberland, and Master Aidan Taylor Paulman, Cumberland, friends of the bride and groom.
The organist and pianist for the ceremony was Mr. Robert Young. The trumpeter was Mr. Ronald Davis and the soloist was Miss Shiloh Wersen. Program attendants were Misses Alexandra, Elizabeth and Katherine Getty and Miss Kate Dunsten.
Scripture readings and reflections were read by Mrs. Katherine Kiemle Buckley, cousin of the groom, and Miss Dervla Maria Kelly, college friend of the bride.
The altar flowers were dedicated to the glory of God and placed in loving memory of Mr. Gorman Eugene Getty Jr., grandfather of the groom; Mr. Wade Hampton Insley Jr., grandfather of the bride; and Mr. Ivan Fearing Shanholtz, grandfather of the bride.
The altar candles were placed in loving memory of Mrs. Evelyn Long Insley, grandmother of the bride; Mrs. Juanita Bowman Shanholtz, grandmother of the bride; and Mrs. Alice Ruth Wright, grandmother of the groom.
The wedding reception was held at the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Resort in Cambridge. Guests were entertained by a string quartet at the outdoor pre-reception cocktail hour at the River’s Edge Lounge. The Choptank Ball Room was transformed by fabric columns crowned with floral arrangements, multi-level table arrangements accented by pin lighting and pin-tucked ivory silk table linens. The formal dinner included jumbo shrimp cocktail and grilled tenderloin. The desserts included chocolate covered strawberries, petits fours, mini-cannoli and a Smith Island Wedding cake. The groom’s cake was a tower of Baltimore Berger Cookies.
Guests danced to the music of the Jangling Reinharts from Central Virginia. Toasts to the bride and groom were given by the best man, the maid of honor and by both fathers of the couple. The couple exited the reception through an archway path of sparklers held by guests.
Guests were greeted on Sunday morning at a brunch hosted by the groom’s parents, which was held at the Regatta Pavilion, Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay.
Following the brunch, the couple left for a 10-day honeymoon trip to the Cancel Bay Resort, St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands.
The bride is a 1998 graduate of James M. Bennett High School in Salisbury and a 2002, cum laude graduate of Dickinson College, Carlisle, Pa. She obtained her law degree from the University of Baltimore School of Law and is currently employed as an attorney at the Law Offices of Ethridge, Quinn, McAuliffe, Rowan and Hartinger in Frederick.
The groom is a 1998 graduate of Bishop Walsh High School in Cumberland, a 2002 magna cum laude graduate of Dickinson College in Carlisle, and a 2005 cum laude graduate of the University of Baltimore School of Law. He is currently employed as an attorney at the Law Offices of Miles and Stockbridge in Frederick.
Guests attended the wedding from Connecticut, Virginia, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Georgia, Pennsylvania, New York, Missouri, Maryland, Michigan, Washington, D.C., Illinois, Oregon and Maine.
The couple were honored by an engagement party held at the Cumberland Country Club hosted by Dr. and Mrs. Frederick Kiemle and Mr. and Mrs. Jeffrey Getty. They were also honored by an engagement party at the Poplar Hill Mansion, Salisbury, hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Fisher, Mr. and Mrs. George Dunsten and Mr. and Mrs. Terry Sell.
A bridal shower luncheon was given in the bride’s honor by her bridesmaids at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Fisher, Salisbury. A luncheon shower was given in the bride’s honor at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Rex Burton and was hosted by Mrs. Rex Burton, Mrs. Carl O. Belt, Mrs. Richard E. Paulman and Mrs. Robert Boyle. A bridal luncheon was given by the bride’s mother, Mrs. Wade Insley, at the Cambridge House in Cambridge the day before the wedding. The rehearsal dinner was hosted by the groom’s parents and was held at the Green Hill Yacht and Country Club in Quantico. A post wedding cocktail party was held to honor the newly-married couple at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Richard C. Insley Jr. in Salisbury.
The couple is currently residing on Market Street in Frederick.
