Ted Femi [Cumberland]
CUMBERLAND - Ted Femi, 89, of Cumberland, died Tuesday, May 13, 2008, in WMHS-Memorial Campus, surrounded by his family.
Born Aug. 26, 1918, in Frostburg, he was the son of the late Nazzareno Femi and Rosa (Bisignano) Femi. He was preceded in death by two wives; Elsie (Waltman) Femi and Catherine (Wolz) Sheetz Femi; six brothers, Santino, Louis, Ernest, Joseph, William and Arthur; and three sisters: Romy Crato, Patsy Myers, and Teresa Dickle.
Mr. Femi was a veteran, serving in the Navy during World War II, in which he proudly received "The Navy Distinguished Medal Award," usually awarded only to officers, and the "Combat Action Award." He was a masonry contractor for most of his life, and owned and operated the LaVale Sunoco Station for many years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus (Pope John XXXIII), and a Charter Member of the LaVale Lions Club. Ted loved to dance to big band music. He was instrumental in starting the LaVale Little League Baseball Program.
Surviving are two sons, Ted Femi and wife Martha, and Brian Femi and wife Kimberly; and one daughter, Rosalie Thomas and husband Lowell. Also surviving are grandchildren, Mikio Thomas, Philip Thomas, Tony Thomas and wife Cynthia, Todd Thomas and wife Laurie, Jason Thomas and wife Tracy, Felicia Martin and husband David, Holly Peck and husband Frank, Heather Thomas and husband Terry, Heidi Miller and husband Gene, Alison Femi, and Taylor Femi; three sisters, Rosalie Peck and husband Donald, Esther Pantuso, and Madeline Femi; 17 great-grandchildren, and a special granddaughter-in-law, Shelly Weber.
Friends will be received at the Hafer Funeral Service, PA, Chapel of the Hills, 1302 National Hwy., LaVale, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Christian Wake service will be held at 8:30 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Cresaptown, on Friday, May 16, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Jim Kurtz, OFM, Cap., as celebrant.
Interment will follow in Restlawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale, with military honors accorded by Post 13, Veterans Honor Guard.
Pallbearers will be Mikio Thomas, Jason Thomas, Tony Thomas, Todd Thomas, David Martin, and Donald Peck. Honorary pallbearers are Philip Thomas and Derek Thomas.
Memorial contributions may be made in his honor to the LaVale Athletic Association, 729 Illinois St., LaVale, MD 21502.
