Paula Lynn Pence [Westernport]

WESTERNPORT — Paula Lynn Pence, 54, of 212 Marsh Ave., Westernport, passed away Monday, June 29, 2009, at Braddock Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Feb. 22, 1955, in Havre De Grace, she was the daughter of the late Paul Amos and Vleada Katrina (Stamper) Scarborough. A son, Harold Eugene Whitaker Jr., also preceded her in death.
At the age of 16, Paula started working for Olan Mills Studio from the Edgewood Motel that her parents managed. She graduated from Edgewood Senior High School. She attended Ruth’s School of Beauty, Bel Air, and began her career as a hair stylist at Quinn’s Hairstyling and Boutique, then went on to open her own shop, Paula Lynn’s Hair Design. During this time she was also a substitute teacher at Harford County Vocational Center. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Piedmont, W.Va., where she was active, having formerly served on the Administrative Board, a Sunday school teacher, a member of church choir, in charge of the church greeters, the altar flowers, and a member of the Aurora Derham Bible Class. She was also a member of XI Alpha Lambda Sorority, Piedmont.
She leaves behind her husband, Bob Pence; a daughter, Jackie (Whitaker) McVicker of Edgewood; four brothers, Jerry Scarborough and wife Kathy of Street, James Scarborough and wife Janet of Street, Jeff Scarborough and wife Dawn of Delta, Pa., Paul A. Scarborough and wife Cindy of Airville Pa.; two sisters, Doris Street and husband Reece of Sebring, Fla., and Jane Caldwell and husband Bill of Street. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Kenny Humphrey, Michael, Mark, Jessica and Caleb McVicker.
The family will receive friends at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted at Trinity United Methodist Church, Piedmont, on Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Diane May, the Rev. William Shimer and the Rev. Harry Coleman officiating. Mrs. Pence will be taken to church one hour prior to service.
Interment will be in Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Trinity United Methodist Church, Piedmont, WV, or the Westernport Church of the Brethren.
