Mary C. “Cassie” Skidmore [Cumberland]

CUMBERLAND — Mary Catherine “Cassie” Skidmore, of Cumberland, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008, at Frostburg Village Nursing Home.

Born April 8, 1917, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late John and Anna (Collins) Welsh. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Harold “Casey” Skidmore; two sisters, Eleanor Farrell and Joan Slaughter; two brothers, John and Robert Welsh.

Mrs. Skidmore was a former employee of the Cumberland Times-News and Allegany Ballistics Laboratory. She was a graduate of Fort Hill High School and was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

Surviving are her son, H. Gregory Skidmore and wife Barbara, Bel Air, Cumberland; two grandchildren, Sarah E. Skidmore, Orlando, Fla., and Jared K. Skidmore, Charleston, S.C.; sister, Margaret “Peg” Stevens, resident of Frostburg Village Nursing Home.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, scarpellifh.com on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church on Saturday at 11 a.m. with Monsignor Thomas R. Bevan as celebrant.

Interment will be in the Maryland State Veterans Cemetery, Rocky Gap, Flintstone.

Pallbearers will be Michael Stevens, John Stevens, Dennis Stevens, Robert Alderson and the Honorable Gary Leasure.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
