George E. Pope [Springs]

SPRINGS, Pa. — George Edward Pope, 47, of Springs, died Monday, Oct. 26, 2009, at his home.

Born Aug. 10, 1962, in Meyersdale, he was the son of Eugene Pope, Salisbury, and the late Doris (Weimer) Pope.

Mr. Pope was a truck driver for Keystone Lime Co. He was a past president and past assistant chief for the Salisbury Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Pope was a member of the Somerset County Maple Producers Association of which he was currently “Maple King.” He and his wife co-owned G & T Acre Maple Products. He was also a member of the Shunk Run Hunting Club and loved hunting and maple producing. George was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, West Salisbury, and was currently attending Springs Mennonite Church.

He is survived by his wife, Tracy G. (Brownlee) Pope; one son, Joshua Pope, Springs; one brother, Patrick Pope and wife, Missy, Martinsburg, W.Va.; two sisters, Winifred Ringler and husband Harry and son, Michael, Salisbury, Christine Upole and husband, Robert, Oakland, Md.; his mother-in-law, Gay N. Brownlee, Harrisonburg, Va.; two brothers-in-law, Weston Brownlee and wife, Trixie and children, Samantha and Bailey, Harrisonburg, Seth Brownlee and wife, Sharla, Fort Worth, Texas; three sisters-in-law, Shelby Conard and husband, Frank, Charles Town, W.Va., Natalie Beiler and husband, Larry and son, Nathaniel, Harrisonburg, Lisa Simpson and husband, Ralph, Lemon Grove, Calif.

Friends will be received at the Springs Mennonite Church on Friday, Oct. 30, from 2 to 9 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Oct. 31, at 10 a.m. at Springs Mennonite Church with the Rev. Nathan Munsch and the Rev. Casey Rohrer officiating. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the services.

Interment will be in St. Michael’s Cemetery. A Christian wake service will be held on Friday at 8:45 p.m.

Expressions of sympathy may be directed to St. Michael’s Catholic Church or Springs Mennonite Church.
