Trojans return in big way

CUMBERLAND - The Allegany College of Maryland women's basketball team opened the second half of its season in a big way, knocking off previously unbeaten Cecil 63-55 Wednesday evening in Maryland JUCO action at Bob Kirk Arena.
The Lady Trojans improve to 10-1 overall with the victory and sit at 3-1 in the conference. Allegany will play the second of five straight league games when it travels to Montgomery-Takoma Park on Friday. Cecil fell to 13-1 overall.
Kacey Kahl scored 16 points, added 15 rebounds for a double-double, and also had four assists for the Trojans. Jasmine Blanks led the team with 18 points, and also finished with four assists and four steals. Melissa Ford made it two Trojans with double-doubles by scoring 11 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.
Lindsey Holliday and DeeDee Reese each scored eight points, and Lisa Beyer grabbed eight rebounds.
"I think our girls played a heck of a game this evening. I can't say enough about them," commented ACM head coach Jerry Rice.
"Cecil is a very good team that was undefeated and averaging around 80 points per game. To be able to hold them 25 points under their average is a testament to our whole defense."
Jamika Wade scored 14 points to lead the Seahawks. Shanell Shivers scored nine.
