Lady Cats will meet Allegheny after eliminating Butler

KEYSER, W.Va. — Potomac State College remained undefeated in the Western Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference Saturday after eliminating Butler from the WPCC Tournament with a 72-41 victory on the Cats home floor.

Potomac had a smothering first half defense that held the Pioneers to 12 points.

“We got an early lead off trying out some new things defensively,” said Potomac State head coach Jim Walton. “The girls really responded well and we were able to get some high percentage shots, while limiting them at the same time by getting some early steals.”

The Catamounts (16-7) led 39-12 at halftime.

Amanda McKim led PSC with 18 points. Cathy Clarke added 13 points and six rebounds, and Maddie Crosby scored 12 points. Denise Johnson added eight points to her four assists and four steals.

The Cats made 32-of-57 shots from the floor for a shooting percentage of 56.

Potomac State has won all 11 games its has played in the WPCC. The Cats can collect the tournament championship by beating CCAC-Allegheny on Monday. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m.

“The girls are really responding well right now,” added Walton. “We are playing well as a team, and that’s been the goal the whole year. Hopefully, we continue to get better through each game in the postseason.”

Samantha Karns scored 20 points for Butler, and Ashley Nocera added 11.
