Allegany takes care of Howard

CUMBERLAND — Three players scored in double figures to lead the 18th-ranked Allegany College of Maryland women over Howard 84-65 Sunday afternoon at Bob Kirk Arena.

Melissa Ford and Kasey Kahl each had double doubles. Ford led the Trojans with 18 points off of nine baskets and pulled down nine boards. Kahl had a team-leading 12 rebounds and scored 16 points. She also had five assists and four steals. Jasmine Blanks scored 17 points and had seven assists.

Jannelee Klipsteen led Howard with 17 points. Amanda Schwartz had 14 and Marcia Bond and Chioma Amaefule each scored 12.

Allegany led at halftime, 32-22.

Although pleased with the win, head coach Jerry Rice was dispointed but understood his team’s off day.

“Our intensity level wasn’t there today,” he said. “It wasn’t one of our better efforts on the season. We gave up more points in the second half (43) than we usually do in a game. As a coach, you sort of expect that coming off the big win over Hagerstown on Friday.”

The Trojans (21-1 overall, 11-1 Maryland JUCO) will host Potomac State College Wednesday evening beginning at 7 p.m.

Howard drops to 8-13.
