CUMBERLAND — Mountain Ridge had beaten Fort Hill the first two times the teams played by a total of 52 points, but the Sentinels forgot their history long enough to topple the Miners Friday in the first round of the Maryland 1A West Region playoffs.
Lindsey Fisher scored 17 points, a game-high, and Sara Steckman contributed 12 points and seven rebounds for the Sentinels. Fisher also led the team with four assists and three steals. Becky Miller had seven points to go with her seven rebounds.
The first two quarters finished with Fort Hill ahead 9-8 and 15-13. The Sentinels pushed the lead to 27-21 by the end of the third.
Mountain Ridge had three players score seven points in Stephanie Fazenbaker, Jenna Delaney and Holly Williams.
Third-seeded Fort Hill (5-16) will travel to play second-seed Southern at 7 p.m. on Monday. The Miners have their season end at 11-11.
