PSC Wins in OT

Potomac State stuns Frederick in OT, 101-91

KEYSER - Potomac State outscored Frederick 17-7 in overtime as the Catamounts evened their record at 2-2 with a 101-91 win over the No. 19 Cougars Wednesday evening in Keyser.

PSC trailed 38-30 at intermission, and never had the lead at any point of the second half. Denise Johnson hit a bucket from the top of the key as the clock ran out to send the game to overtime tied at 84.

Once in the extra period, Frederick point guard - and the night's leading scorer - Denise Campbell fouled out. Her replacements were unable to handle Potomac's defensive pressure as the Cats built their lead.

"We had a good night on the scoring end, of course," said PSC head coach Jim Walton. "But what was more impressive was the team effort on defense. We believed and stepped it up when we had to. The girls complimented each other all night."

Johnson led Potomac State by scoring 26, and former Hampshire standout Ashley Heavener added 17 points. Julieanne Buckley recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. She also added six assists.

LaKeisha Pitts scored 14 points, and Amanda McKim had seven rebounds to go with her 13 points.

Campbell's 36 points led all scorers, and Katherine Mills scored 15 for the Cougars.

The Catamounts will begin play in the Western Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference when it hosts Pitt-Titusville at noon on Saturday.
