Kahl leads ACM over Gloucester

Ford, Holliday help Trojans improve to 6-1

SEWELL, N.J. — Kacey Kahl had team highs with 18 points and nine rebounds in leading Allegany College of Maryland to a 76-53 victory over Gloucester County Thursday evening.

Kahl also had four assists and four steals for the Trojans, who shook off a slow start in improving their record to 6-1.

Melissa Ford scored 17 points and dished out four assists, and Lindsay Holliday added 13 points, six rebounds and five assists.

Jasmine Blanks had nine points, a game-high eight assists and five steals, and DeeDee Reese had seven assists. The Trojans finished with 28 assists as a team.

“We got off to a bit of a slow start and defensively didn’t do a good job early,’’ admitted ACM coach Jerry Rice. “But the girls responded and had a good run midway through the first half to build a lead.

“It wasn’t a pretty win, but it was a good win. We were unselfish and got some great passing and 28 assists. I’m pleased with the win and it was another chance for everyone to contribute. But I was a bit disappointed with our defensive intensity at times.

“But I give credit to Gloucester. They played a hard and aggressive game.”

The Trojans led 42-27 at halftime.

Jazmin Clemens had 18 points, Kristina Cox 14 and Liz Plum 11 for Gloucester.

Allegany hosts Montgomery-Rockville in a conference game on Saturday at 4:45.
