Frankfort beat Keyser 57-45

SHORT GAP, W.Va. — The Frankfort girls led by as many as 20 points and opened their season with a victory over arch-rival Keyser in Erin McKenzie’s debut as head coach on Friday night at Frankfort.

Mariah Miller scored 15 points, Diane Dayton added 14, and Aira Whiteman 10 to lead the Frankfort offense. Dayton also contributed five rebounds, four steals and four blocks, while Whiteman had five rebounds and five steals.

Keyser (0-2) was led by Alicia Cuthbertson with 15 points and Christina Koontz with 10.

Frankfort led 14-8 after one period, 35-24 at halftime, and 47-33 entering the final eight minutes.

Frankfort won the junior varsity game, 44-38, with Savannah Hose scoring 11 points. Matraca Shirley led Keyser with nine points.

Keyser (0-2) will host Southern in its home opener on Monday. Frankfort (1-0) will host Bishop Walsh on Tuesday.
